Promoting Greek Products to Global Markets

Enterprise Greece spearheads efforts to introduce “Made in Greece” to international buyers.

Successful Greek Presence at SIAL Paris 2014
One of the largest food exhibitions in the world, the International Food and Drink Exhibition SIAL in Paris, has come to an end. More than 150,000 visitors attended the exhibition that took place October 19-23, 2014.

Greece’s national participation, under the auspices of Enterprise Greece, made a great impression on participants. More than 100 Greek companies exhibited their products and come in contact with buyers from all over the world. Some of these companies were awarded for their innovative products, while visitors showed great interest in Greek food and beverages.

This year the Enterprise Greece B2B Center resulted in a significant increase in B2B meetings for the Greek exhibitors.

The national pavilion also showcased two restaurants, in which internationally renowned chefs prepared Greek specialties, using ingredients offered by the Greek exhibitors. In the main restaurant, which operated in collaboration with Aldemar Hotels, chef Agalou gave the visitors the chance to try out new and traditional recipes made with Greek ingredients, while in the second restaurant chef Vasalos cooked with fish and seafood, highlighting their unique flavours.

Enterprise Greece’s successful presence in leading exhibitions such as SIAL Paris will continue in 2015 with the participation in the largest exhibitions in the world. Enterprise Greece is currently preparing for the national participation in exhibitions such as Gulfood, Anuga, Fancy Food, Prowein, FruitLogistica, and SIAL China.

Promoting Greek Seafood
Enterprise Greece SA is implementing a series of initiatives to promote the Greek fish and seafood sector, under the Operational Program for Fisheries and the Integrated Operational Plan for the Promotion of Mediterranean Marine Species, with a strong focus on sea bream and sea bass. Enterprise Greece aims to reinforce the image of this dynamic export sector in the global market, while promoting the excellent quality and benefits of Greek aquaculture products.

In the framework of this action plan, Enterprise Greece took part in the international exhibition Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show 2014, held September 7-9, 2014 in Orlando, Florida, in close cooperation with Greek industry associations and at Seafood Expo Asia 2014.

The Florida Restaurant & Lodging Show 2014 exhibition took place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando and provided a strategic platform for the promotion of food, equipment and technology in the field of catering.

During the exhibition the Greek delegation presented Mediterranean aquaculture products for specific audiences (masterclass) at the Greek pavilion and conducted a live cooking demonstration and tasting. Special recipes were prepared specifically for this presentation, with sea bream and sea bass the main ingredients.

Enterprise Greece at Seafood Expo Asia 2014
Enterprise Greece participated in Seafood Expo Asia in Hong Kong September 2-4, 2014, as part of the promotion of the Mediterranean aquaculture program funded by the Operational Program for Fisheries. The Greek delegates presented aquaculture products to food importers and distributors, as well as representatives of large hotels and restaurants, from the Hong Kong region. During the exhibition there was a special presentation of the products with extensive reference to their quality and nutritional value. Chef Kostas Vasalos prepared a variety of dishes with sea bream and sea bass for the visitors. In China the average annual per capita consumption of fish is 26 kg, as opposed to 16 kg in the rest of the world. Furthermore, the standard of living in China is constantly improving, prompting locals to constantly be on the look out for new products. While the Chinese market is a challenge, it can be a new success story for the Greek aquaculture industry. Enterprise Greece, in collaboration with the respective agencies, will continue to take advantage of every opportunity that will help put Greek aquaculture products in the Chinese market in a way that highlights their identity and superior quality.
