Photovoltaics Gaining Momentum

According to the Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies, Greece was fourth in Europe and seventh worldwide in terms of newly installed photovoltaic capacity in 2012.

Specifically, 912 megawatt (MW) of photovoltaics were installed in 2012, which corresponds to 88% of all new electricity power added in the past year. Photovoltaics covered over 3% of the country's needs in electricity, generating 1.7 billion kilowatt hours (1,7 TWh), or about 30% of all green energy in 2012. Due to photovoltaics, in 2012 the release of 1.12 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere was prevented.
