FAO - Food Coalition - COVID-19 Response

10 November 2020 |

In only six months, COVID-19 has reached every part of the world with long-term effects on food systems, food security and nutrition.

While 690 million people in 2019 went to bed hungry, the pandemic might push between 83 to 132 million more people to hunger in 2020.

This is a Global problem that needs global response and joint action, in order to avoid the health crisis from becoming a food crisis.

The Food Coalition proposed by the Government of Italy, and led by FAO, is a multi-stakeholder global alliance, a network of networks for a unified global action in response to COVID-19.

The Food Coalition aims to be an advocate for strengthening agri-food systems around the world and will raise awareness, mobilize financial resources and technical expertise, and source innovation and knowledge in support of the countries most in need.
