Greece 2022 Exports (provisional data – Hellenic Statistical Authority)
The value of Greek exports jumped 36.7% in 2022, according to provisional data by the Hellenic Statistical Authority, rising to €54,676.4 million last year, compared with €39,997.0 million in 2021. Excluding petroleum products, exports increased by 21.4% (to €35,163.0 million from €28,960.1 million in 2021), and by 21.6% excluding both petroleum products and ships (to €35,052.8 million from €28,837.1 million).
Fuel represented the largest share of exports for 2022 (36.8%), followed by industrial products, mainly raw materials (14.8%), food and live animals (12.7%) and chemicals (11.0%).
The total value of imports in 2022 amounted to €93,048.3 million, compared with €65,457.3 million for 2021, an increase of 42.2%. Excluding petroleum products, the increase was 25.9% (to €61,561.5 million from €48,882.8 million), while excluding both petroleum products and ships, imports rose 25.5% (to €61,136.9 million euros from €48,730.4 million).
Fuel represented the largest share of imports in 2022 (34.9%), followed by transport machinery and equipment (16.8%), and chemicals (13.2%).
Destination countries
More than half of Greek exports were to other European Union (EU) member-states in 2022 − accounting for 55.1% of total Greek exports overall − demonstrating the bloc’s continued importance as a destination for Greek products.
The main destination countries for Greek exports in value terms for 2022 were:
• Italy (10.4%)
• Bulgaria (7.9%)
• Germany (6.5%)
• Cyprus (5.9%)
• Turkey (4.6%)
• USA (4.1%)
Noteworthy increases in 2022 Greek exports were observed in the following countries*:
• Gibraltar (+132%)
• Bulgaria (+119%)
• Malta (+117%)
• Morocco (+108%)
• Republic of North Macedonia (+101%)
• Liberia (+84%)
• Libya (+83%)
• Spain (+75%)
• United Kingdom (+65%)
• Sweden (+60%)
• Israel (+54%)

Countries of origin
The EU was also an important source of imports, accounting for 42.8% of Greek imports in 2022.
The main source countries for Greek imports in value terms for 2022 were:
• Russia (10.0%)
• Germany (9.2%)
• China (8.5%)
• Iraq (7.3%)
• Italy (6.8%)
• Netherlands (4.8%)
Total merchandise trade
Overall, Greek merchandise trade transactions (exports + imports) amounted to €147,724.7 million in 2022.
Exports of goods in 2022 were less than imports (resulting in a 50.7% increase in the trade deficit), but this was mostly offset by Greek exports of services, such as shipping, tourism, financial services, etc.
