Enterprise Greece at WindEurope 2026
The energy crisis rekindles global interest in RES projects – Significant opportunities for Greek businesses
Athens, April 28, 2026 | Enterprise Greece actively participated in the annual WindEurope conference and exhibition, which took place in Madrid from April 21 to 23, 2026. The event was attended by high-ranking European Union officials, ministers, representatives of regulatory authorities, and leading companies in the energy sector.
This year’s exhibition took place at a particularly critical juncture for Europe, where energy security and the competitiveness of the economy have emerged as absolute priorities. Recent geopolitical developments in the Persian Gulf once again highlighted that the rapid transition to domestic, clean, and affordable energy is a fundamental prerequisite for the strategic autonomy and energy resilience of the European Union.
As part of the conference, Mr. Nikos Stamou, Director of Investment Promotion, Energy, Environment & Services at Enterprise Greece, participated in a panel discussion on the prospects for the development of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) markets in Southern Europe (Greece, Italy, Portugal). The panel was attended by more than 120 delegates. Mr. Stamou presented the recent and upcoming regulatory developments in the sector, the market for corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs), the investments being implemented and planned in wind technology, energy storage, and electricity interconnections, as well as Greece’s overall progress toward the Green Transition, in line with the objectives of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP).
During the exhibition, bilateral meetings were held with international investors and companies in the sector. These meetings showcased the recent improvements in Greece’s investment and regulatory framework, the potential for developing onshore and offshore wind farms, and placed particular emphasis on Greece’s role as a regional energy hub in Southeast Europe, leveraging its geostrategic position, highly skilled workforce, and the strong presence of Greek enterprises.
WindEurope 2026 highlighted the central role of wind energy in the European energy strategy. Over the three-day event, specialized seminars, speeches, thematic panels, and side events were organized with the participation of leading experts.
The large Greek delegation – consisting of representatives from Greek companies and institutional bodies – had a dynamic presence, with active participation in speeches and interventions. In addition, six outward-looking Greek companies participated in the exhibition, presenting their specialized products and services to the international wind energy sector.
Commenting on Enterprise Greece’s successful participation, the company’s CEO, Dr. Marinos Yannopoulos, stated: “Enterprise Greece’s participation in WindEurope 2026 confirms our country’s strategic commitment to further strengthening Greece as a leading investment destination in the clean energy sector across the wider Southeast Europe region. A region that combines exceptional wind potential with the parallel development of multiple international electricity interconnections. Through targeted actions and international partnerships, we continue to support the development of the wind energy sector and the internationalization of Greek businesses, actively contributing to the creation of a sustainable, competitive, and resilient energy future for Greece and the whole of Europe.”
