Greek Textile Industry Takes the International Stage
Athens, 6 February 2026 | With a strong footprint in quality, innovation, and sustainability, the Greek textile industry took its next outward-looking step with the country’s first national participation at the international apparel fabrics and textile trade fair MUNICH FABRIC START 2026, held in Munich (27–29 January 2026).
The initiative was implemented by Enterprise Greece, in cooperation with the Hellenic Fashion Industry Association (SEPEE), within the framework of the two organizations’ ongoing collaboration to strengthen the extroversion and international presence of the Greek apparel and textile sector.
MUNICH FABRIC START is the largest event in the German and German-speaking markets (Austria – Netherlands – Switzerland) for yarns, fabrics, garments, and accessories, attracting more than 15,000 professional buyers from 37 countries and over 1,100 exhibitors. Beyond its commercial dimension, the exhibition serves as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange and networking, featuring trend presentations and thematic areas dedicated to innovation, sustainability, and new technologies.
The event was structured around key thematic segments covering the entire fashion and production value chain:
- FABRICS / ADDITIONALS (fabrics & apparel raw materials)
- BLUEZONE (denim)
- DESIGN STUDIOS (prints & patterns)
- ReSOURCE (sustainable sourcing)
- THE SOURCE (modern industrial manufacturing)
- KEYHOUSE (networking & collaborations)
- SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS (innovative materials and designers)
The Greek delegation included 10 companies, seven of which are based in the Region of Central Macedonia, highlighting the region’s pivotal role in the textile and apparel production ecosystem.
Through their participation, Greek companies:
- strengthened their presence in the international market,
- engaged with leading industry professionals and buyers,
- expanded their partnership networks,
- showcased the competitiveness and quality of Greek production in one of Europe’s most dynamic markets.
Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, CEO of Enterprise Greece, stated: “Greece’s first national participation in MUNICH FABRIC START 2026 marks another significant step for the Greek textile and apparel industry on the international stage. The strong presence of Greek companies, combined with the keen interest shown by international buyers and their meaningful interaction with leading industry professionals, confirms that Greek products can compete at a high level and stand out in the most demanding markets.”
Visit of Official Representatives to the Greek Stands
The Greek stands were visited by the Consul General of Greece in Munich, Mr. K. Kodellas, accompanied by executives from the Office for Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Consulate General in Munich, as well as by the Director General of SEPEE, Mr. Th. Aslanidis. During the visit, discussions focused on prospects for collaboration with German and other European companies, as well as on the challenges facing the sector.
Following his visit, Mr. Kodellas stated: “It was with great pleasure that I visited, together with colleagues from the Economic Office of the Consulate General, the Greek stands at Munich Fabric Start — one of the most important international trade fairs worldwide for fabrics, ready-to-wear garments, and accessories — where we met and spoke individually with the 10 Greek exhibitors. I must say that I am truly impressed, both by the high standard of presentation and the quality of the Greek exhibits, as well as by the organization of the National Participation by Enterprise Greece and SEPEE. I firmly believe in the dynamism and international competitiveness of companies in this sector in our country, something I witnessed firsthand at the exhibition. There are also significant prospects for further strengthening our exports and business partnerships between Greek manufacturers and Bavaria, as well as the German market more broadly. Congratulations once again to Enterprise Greece and SEPEE for the excellent organization. We hope that Greece’s National Participation at Munich Fabric Start will not only continue in the coming years but will also be upgraded to a full National Pavilion.
