Enterprise Greece Co-Organizes the ANIMA 20th Anniversary International Symposium

Aiming to establish a common framework for investment, resilience, connectivity, and economic cooperation through 2036

Athens, April 17, 2026, | Athens will take center stage in international economic discussions on April 23, 2026, as it hosts the Euro-Mediterranean symposium “Mediterranean 2036: Future Proofing Economic Prosperity,” co-organized by Enterprise Greece and the ANIMA Investment Network, marking the 20th anniversary of ANIMA’s establishment.

The event forms part of ANIMA’s wider anniversary program for 2026 and constitutes the first flagship gathering of this commemorative series.

The Athens symposium aims to serve as a high-level platform for meaningful dialogue on the future of the Mediterranean at a time when the region faces complex geo-economic, energy, climate, technological, and development challenges. The initiative seeks to turn discussion into practical pathways for cooperation, with an emphasis on investment priorities, resilient value chains, human capital, and reliable connectivity between Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Africa.

The selection of Athens as host city reflects Greece’s strengthened role as a meeting point for markets, networks, and strategic corridors connecting three continents, as well as the country’s growing momentum as a development and geo-economic hub in the wider region. The symposium’s rationale is closely linked to the need for regional development actors to move beyond general observations toward more actionable forms of cooperation and coordination.

The symposium is expected to bring together representatives of international organizations, investment and business institutions, economic cooperation bodies, clusters, and think tanks from Europe, the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and Africa.

Four Key Thematic Pillars

The symposium agenda will focus on four core areas:

  • The evolution of Mediterranean value chains and economic growth
  • Climate change as both a challenge and a source of new investment and production opportunities
  • Human capital, employability and talent mobility
  • Digital trust, technological sovereignty and data security

Among the participants will be senior representatives from the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the OECD, the European Commission, as well as heads of investment organizations, business networks, clusters and companies from a wide range of countries across the broader region.

The program will include keynote interventions, thematic panel discussions and workshops.

Towards Concrete Outcomes: The Athens Action Plan

The Athens symposium is not intended as a simple exchange of views. It aims to deliver concrete and measurable outcomes, most notably the Athens Action Plan public framework of key conclusions and actionable cooperation proposals—as well as a follow-up mechanism to monitor the continuation of initiatives after the event.

In parallel with the symposium, several closed-door side events will also take place, including the Euromed Clusters Forward Academy, workshops, benchmarking visits to flagship Greek projects and innovation ecosystems.

Statement by Enterprise Greece CEO Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos

Commenting on the organization of the international symposium in Athens, the Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, stated:

*“The Mediterranean stands today at a critical crossroads. It faces mounting pressures linked to climate change, supply chain security, energy, technology, human capital, and geopolitical uncertainty. At the same time, however, it possesses significant potential for cooperation, connectivity, and productive transformation.

The challenge before us is no longer simply to identify risks, but to convert dialogue into projects, ideas into investments, and geographical proximity into shared progress.

Hosting the ANIMA 20th Anniversary International Symposium in Athens confirms Greece’s upgraded role as a reference point for investment, innovation, and international economic cooperation in the wider region. We believe in a Mediterranean that is more connected, more competitive, more reliable, and more resilient. We also believe that Greece can actively contribute to shaping this new perspective.”
