Business Mission to Egypt

Business Mission to Egypt
Athens, 8 December 2025 – Significant prospects for further strengthening Greek exports in the sectors of food & beverages, pharmaceuticals & cosmetics, information & communication technologies, construction & building materials, environmental services & energy, medical equipment & consumables, and defense emerged from the business mission successfully carried out in Cairo from 1 to 4 December 2025.
The mission was co-organized by Enterprise Greece, SEV (Hellenic Federation of Enterprises), the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), and SEVE (Greek Exporters Association), in cooperation with the Economic & Commercial Affairs Office in Cairo and the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Haris Theoharis.
On Tuesday, 2 December, the Business Forum took place, during which the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Haris Theoharis, delivered an official address, highlighting the added value of Greek entrepreneurship and the significant potential for cooperation between Greece and Egypt. Dr. Abd Elaziz Elsherif, First Undersecretary of State and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), highlighted Egypt’s competitive advantage as a commercial hub. Mr. Gen Yasser Abbas, Vice President of GAFI, presented the current needs and investment opportunities of the Egyptian market. Representatives of SEV, ACCI, and SEVE also referred to the potential for expanding bilateral trade, while Ms. Tryposkoufi, Director of SME & Large Exporters – Industry – Energy – Shipping & Country Promotion at Enterprise Greece, analyzed the possibilities for deepening commercial cooperation between the two countries.
The CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, stated:
“Meetings held between Greek companies and representatives of the Egyptian market highlighted the importance of further strengthening trade relations between the two countries. Greek products already hold a strong presence in Egypt, while the country represents a dynamically growing market of particular interest to Greek entrepreneurship.
Despite this positive foundation, there is still significant room for growth in bilateral transactions, especially due to geographical proximity and the complementarity of our economies. Strengthening Greece–Egypt trade relations can substantially contribute to the stability and prosperity of the broader region. Enterprise Greece will continue its work in this direction with consistency and determination.”
Ms. Vicky Makrygianni, Director of International Relations at SEV, stated:
“Today, cooperation between Greece and Egypt is gaining new momentum. Our companies are demonstrating in practice their willingness to invest and support the development plans we jointly promote. Our relationship has evolved into a strategic partnership, based not only on economic interests but also on strong ties between our people. With confidence, we continue to turn opportunities into action and our partnership into a lever for shared prosperity.
Ms. Eleni Foti, Director of International Commercial Relations at ACCI, added:
“Today’s business mission in Cairo, with the participation of 19 Greek companies, is a substantial step toward strengthening bilateral trade and further deepening Greece–Egypt economic relations. Egypt continues to emerge as a significant hub of investment opportunities, while Greece offers a stable and competitive environment with access to the European market. Despite the current trade deficit for our country, total transaction volumes confirm the potential for expanding Greek exports and developing new mutually beneficial partnerships. The Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry remain fully committed to enhancing the extroversion of its members and systematically supporting Greek Egyptian economic cooperation.”
Representing SEVE–Greek Exporters Association, Ms. Natasa Yaloglou, Business Support, emphasized that the business mission to Egypt is taking place at a time when trade relations between the two countries are experiencing remarkable growth. With Greek exports soaring in 2024 to €906.2 million — a 79.2% increase in just one year — driven by sectors such as petroleum products, raw materials, and beverages, tobacco, Egypt confirms its role as one of the most promising markets for Greek entrepreneurship. At the same time, the reduction of the trade deficit by 62.3% demonstrates that Greek products are gaining ground and recognition in the Egyptian market.
“Egypt is a true strategic partner for Greece,” she noted, highlighting that beyond geographic and historical proximity, the business environment is maturing, while enhanced institutional cooperation and simplified procedures pave the way for new commercial and investment synergies that can further accelerate bilateral economic relations.
On the same day, bilateral meetings were held between Greek and Egyptian companies. Nineteen dynamic Greek companies from seven sectors participated, holding approximately 180 targeted B2B meetings with local firms. After the Forum, additional networking followed between Greek companies and selected GAFI members, aimed at developing synergies and exploring new commercial partnerships.
Later that day, the Embassy of Greece in Cairo, in the presence of H.E. the Ambassador, Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, hosted a reception in honor of the Greek delegation.
The following day, Wednesday 3 December 2025, mission participants visited the New Suez Canal and the Suez Economic Zone, while companies in the food sector visited the facilities of EL Far Trading Co., a major importer and distributor in Egypt.
In the evening, EUROBANK hosted a dinner for the participants, reaffirming its active support for promoting and strengthening extroversion through the Exportgate digital platform.
