“Discover Mexico” Business Opportunities in Mexico

“Discover Mexico”
Enterprise Greece, SEV, ACCI, and SEVE Event on Business Opportunities in Mexico
Athens, December 10, 2025 | “Discover Mexico” was successfully held on Tuesday, December 9, at the premises of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EBEA). The event was co-organized by the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Enterprise Greece, the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV), and the Hellenic Exporters Association (SEVE).
The event aimed to provide Greek companies with substantial information regarding the business environment in Mexico, opportunities for the penetration of Greek products and services, as well as ways to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Mr. Giannis Bratakos, President of ACCI, Ms. Vicky Makrygianni, Director of International Relations at SEV, Mr. Nikolaos Vasileiou, Board Member of Enterprise Greece, and Mr. Panagiotis Chasapis, Executive Vice President of SEVE.
Mr. Giannis Bratakos, President of ACCI, stated: “Latin America represents a strategic target for expanding and diversifying the map of Greek exports. With its diverse structure and growing demand for quality and innovative products and services, it is a privileged destination. Within this broader context, Mexico stands out as a reference point. It has a mature industrial and manufacturing base, plays a critical role in the production of medium- and high-tech products, and is one of the most important export hubs in the region. Mexico implements an economic policy oriented toward attracting foreign direct investments and developing productive capacities. Furthermore, Mexico’s close cooperation with the European Union, through free trade agreements, significantly facilitates access to both markets and creates clear competitive advantages for those choosing to operate there. However, exploiting these prospects requires proper preparation and information, reliable networking bridges, and substantial institutional support. EBEA addresses these needs, having made support for outward orientation a central priority. With experience, expertise, and networks of cooperation with institutional bodies, we are here to support every Greek company that wishes to explore, penetrate, or invest in the Mexican market and, more broadly, in Latin America.”
Ms. Vicky Makrygianni, Director of International Relations at SEV, noted: “Greek companies possess strong competitive advantages in sectors that align with the current priorities of the Mexican market, such as food and agricultural products, pharmaceuticals and medical technology, as well as building materials and technical services. At the same time, cooperation can be significantly enhanced in renewable energy, environmental technologies, maritime services, logistics, and digital innovation, where Greek expertise and export orientation provide notable advantages. The modernized EU–Mexico Free Trade Agreement is expected, upon implementation, to substantially facilitate trade and create a more predictable and business-friendly environment for European—and therefore Greek—companies.”
Mr. Nikos Vasileiou, Board Member of Enterprise Greece, emphasized: “Mexico is a market with exceptional dynamism. It is a rapidly growing economy with a strong industrial sector, vast trade openness, and excellent prospects for mutually beneficial partnerships. There are sectors where Greece and Mexico can successfully cooperate, such as energy, technology, tourism, shipping, agri-food, and creative industries. Enterprise Greece is here to strengthen and support these opportunities.”
Mr. Panagiotis Chasapis, Executive Vice President of SEVE – Hellenic Exporters Association, highlighted: “Mexico is not merely a distant market but a destination full of opportunities for Greek companies.” Despite a slight downturn in 2024, bilateral trade remains higher than pre-pandemic levels. Greek exports of €158 million and a trade surplus of €76.7 million confirm the competitiveness of Greek products and create room for further penetration into the Mexican market. He also noted that the two economies are complementary, opening opportunities not only for trade but also for collaborations in food, industry, technology applications, logistics services, and investments. Mr. Chasapis stressed that the event provides valuable information and networking for companies interested in recognizing and leveraging the potential of one of the most interesting economies in the Americas.
Interventions followed by the Ambassador of Mexico to Greece, H.E. Mr. Alejandro García Moreno Elizondo, and the Ambassador of Greece to Mexico, H.E. Mr. Nikolaos Kotrokois (via teleconference), who emphasized the importance of Greek Mexican relations and opportunities for developing new partnerships.
Ms. Leda Giuffrida, Trade Coordinator of the European Commission, presented (via teleconference) the key aspects of the updated EU–Mexico Free Trade Agreement, expected to further enhance trade and investment between the two sides and facilitate access of European—and particularly Greek—products to the Mexican market.
Next, Ms. Eleni Albanti, Senior Officer i-Services at Eurobank, presented the economic and trade relations between Greece and Mexico, highlighting emerging opportunities in the local market.
According to the most recent data for 2024:
- Greek exports to Mexico reached $171 million, showing a steady upward trend.
- Greece’s imports from Mexico amounted to $88 million, with major products including electronic equipment, machinery, aluminum, and alcoholic beverages.
- Greek exported products include optical and medical instruments, chemicals, plastics, aluminum, and processed foods.
- Food imports (such as avocado, peppers, mango, and corn) have increased, with the broader category approaching $192 million.
Mexico represents a strategic gateway market to North and Central America, with significant demand for specialized industrial and technological products, where Greek companies have strong competitive advantages.
In the final session, coordinated by Mr. Panagiotis Chasapis, Executive Vice President of SEVE, Mr. Thodoris Mellos, International Business Development & Marketing Manager at ALCHIMICA Building Chemicals, and Mr. Juan Carlos Lopez, Commercial Department, Latin America Sales Manager at SABO Group, shared practical advice, experiences, and challenges of the local market. Emphasis was placed on the need for continuous presence, reliable partners, and adaptation to the specific characteristics of the Mexican business culture.
The event was coordinated by Mr. Ioannis Kourtalis, Board Member of EBEA.
The event confirmed that Greek Mexican trade relations are on an upward trajectory, with significant potential for further development. The increasing presence of Greek products in the Mexican market, the enhancement of the EU–Mexico Agreement, and the systematic deepening of business contacts create a highly favourable framework for expanding cooperation.
The event concluded with a networking session, allowing participants to explore new corporate synergies and collaboration prospects.
