Enterprise Greece at Data Centre World London

Strong international investment interest in digital infrastructure in Greece following Enterprise Greece meetings at Data Centre World London
Athens, 09 March 2026 | Significant investment prospects for the further development of Greece’s digital infrastructure ecosystem emerged during Enterprise Greece’s participation in Data Centre World London, held on 4–5 March at ExCeL London.
Enterprise Greece’s presence at the event coincided with a period when Greece is attracting growing interest from the global digital infrastructure market. The development of new international submarine cable connections, the expansion of cloud infrastructure, and the entry of major hyperscale and colocation operators are gradually strengthening the country’s position as an emerging data hub for Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
In this context, a series of targeted meetings was held during the exhibition with international companies active across the entire value chain of data centres and digital infrastructure, including hyperscale and cloud infrastructure, equipment technologies, energy solutions, engineering design, and construction. These discussions highlighted new exploratory investment opportunities in the broader digital infrastructure sector and reflect the increasing interest of international groups in the Greek market.
Three key areas of investment interest emerged from these meetings:
- Development of new data centre capacity:
Potential investment scenarios include developing colocation facilities with a regional role and gradually building hyperscale-ready campuses for cloud and artificial intelligence applications serving Southeastern Europe. - Establishment of regional technology and engineering hubs:
The potential establishment of specialised engineering design and technology support centres for digital infrastructure projects was also explored, leveraging Greece’s strong talent pool in ICT and engineering. - Development of an industrial and supply-chain base for digital infrastructure:
Opportunities were examined to install assembly and integration activities for high-tech equipment, including racks supporting artificial intelligence infrastructure and advanced cooling systems required to operate large-scale data centres.
International stakeholders identified several key advantages of Greece, including its strategic position as a highly connected hub of international submarine cables, its participation in the fully interconnected European electricity system with increasing penetration of renewable energy sources, its highly skilled workforce, and the presence of a strong technical and construction sector. In addition, the institutional framework for accelerating major investments — including the Strategic Investments process — was positively assessed, as it facilitates the implementation of complex high-technology infrastructure projects.
The CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, stated: “International markets increasingly recognize the role Greece can play as a digital infrastructure hub for Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. The meetings held at Data Centre World London highlight the growing interest of international groups in the Greek market and confirm that the country possesses the key prerequisites for the development of modern data centre infrastructure, including strong international connectivity, expanding energy capacity, a highly skilled technology workforce, and a mature technical ecosystem.”
