Energy Storage in Focus – An Accelerator for New Investments in Greece’s Green Transition
Athens, July 02, 2026 | Enterprise Greece participated in the international exhibition and conference “The Smarter E Europe,” the most significant event in Europe for the energy and energy equipment sector, held from June 23 to 25 in Munich.
The annual exhibition brings together leading speakers and exhibitors from around the world and comprises four specialized sectoral exhibitions:
- Intersolar Europe – solar energy and photovoltaic systems
- ees Europe – energy storage
- Power2Drive Europe – electromobility and charging infrastructure
- EM Power Europe – distribution and use of energy from RES
This year’s event attracted 2,650 exhibitors from 52 countries and nearly 105,000 visitors from 163 countries, confirming its international character. Key conclusions from the conference highlighted that, in an environment of increasing geopolitical instability, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) constitute a strategic solution, offering economic resilience, energy security, and autonomy. Furthermore, it was emphasized that new energy systems will not rely on a few large power-generation units but on thousands of interconnected RES systems, designed for flexibility, decentralized operation, and a high degree of digitalization.
Enterprise Greece was represented by Mr. Nikos Stamou, Director of Investment Promotion, who held 18 business meetings with European companies that are either already active or exploring the Greek market for the development of new RES production and/or energy storage projects. On the sidelines of the exhibition, Mr. Stamou participated in the special event “Hydrogen Dialogue” of the Hydrogen Centre Bavaria on June 24, focusing on hydrogen technologies and applications.
The exhibition also featured 12 Greek companies with a strong export and international profile, operating in a wide range of energy products and services: manufacturing of photovoltaic panel mounting structures, flexible organic photovoltaics, electrical equipment, specialized software, and specialized energy studies.
Regarding Enterprise Greece’s presence at the international exhibition, the CEO of the company, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, stated: “Enterprise Greece’s participation for another year in Smarter E Europe is part of our strategy to promote Greece as a leading international investment destination for RES energy production and storage projects. Leveraging its high solar potential, geostrategic position, and highly skilled human resources, our country — having already installed over 10 GW of photovoltaics — continues its rapid progress towards the green transition, integrating new RES units into the electricity system and investing in energy storage. Enterprise Greece, through a comprehensive program of outward-looking actions, supports both Greek companies in the sector and foreign investors interested in developing RES projects in Greece.”
