Greece at the Leadership of WAIPA

Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, CEO of Enterprise Greece, elected EU Regional Directorof the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA)
Athens, 22 October 2025 | Greece further consolidates its position on the international investment map with the election of Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, CEO of Enterprise Greece, as EU Regional Director on the Board of Directors of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA). The election took place during the World Investment Conference, held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.
This distinction represents a significant recognition of Greece’s rising international profile and credibility in the field of investment promotion, as well as of the substantive work carried out by Enterprise Greece in positioning the country as a strategic hub and reliable partner for the global investment community.
In parallel, Mr. Marios Tannousis, CEO of Invest Cyprus, was elected to the WAIPA Board as Regional Director for Eastern Europe, highlighting the strategic role of the broader Mediterranean region in shaping the global investment landscape.
Founded in 1995 with the support of UNCTAD, the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) serves as the leading global forum for cooperation among national and regional Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs). Today, the network brings together over 170 organizations from more than 130 countries, facilitating the exchange of expertise, experience, and best practices.
WAIPA’s mission is to enhance international collaboration, promote sustainable investment, and support its members through technical assistance and training—strengthening their capacity to shape and implement effective investment policies. Supported by international organizations such as the OECD and the World Bank, WAIPA plays a pivotal role in defining global standards for investment attraction and facilitation.
As EU Regional Director of WAIPA, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos will represent Europe on the global investment stage, fostering collaboration, networking, and knowledge sharing among European agencies, and promoting sustainable and innovative investment policies with international impact. His election represents a significant distinction for Greece and Enterprise Greece, highlighting the country’s role as a pillar of stability, resilience, and outward-looking growth in Southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean region. “Greece’s participation in WAIPA’s leadership strengthens Europe’s voice in the global investment dialogue and underscores our country’s role as a strategic hub and reliable partner in promoting sustainable development and international cooperation.
