The event aimed to highlight the potential for strengthening trade and investment cooperation between Greece and Egypt, and to present the opportunities offered by the Egyptian market in sectors of strategic interest to Greek businesses. The strong participation of entrepreneurs, institutional representatives, and members of the diplomatic community underscored the importance attached to deepening bilateral economic relations.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by:

- Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, CEO of Enterprise Greece
- Mr. Panagiotis Chasapis, Executive Vice President of SEVE
This was followed by addresses from H.E. Mr. Omar Amer Youssef, Ambassador of Egypt to Greece, and H.E. Mr. Nikolaos Papageorgiou, Ambassador of Greece to Egypt (via teleconference). Both Ambassadors emphasized the strategic importance of bilateral relations and encouraged Greek businesses to explore partnerships with Egypt, especially in sectors where they possess expertise and competitive advantages.
The first session, titled “Bilateral Trade and Investment Opportunities in Egypt,” featured:
- Mr. Mohamed Youssef, Advisor to the Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI)
- Ms. Eman Said, Europe Region Manager, Investment Promotion Department, GAFI
- Ms. Eleni Albanti, Senior Officer, i-Services, Eurobank

During the event, it became clear that Egypt is a stable and increasingly strategic partner for Greece in North Africa and the Eastern Mediterranean. Bilateral trade and investment relations are gaining strong momentum, driven by geostrategic proximity, historically good relations, and a favorable investment climate in Egypt.
Special emphasis was placed on sectors of strategic importance such as energy, infrastructure, shipping, financial services, and agri-food, in which Greek businesses hold substantial expertise and competitive advantages.
In 2024, the total value of Greek exports to Egypt reached approximately €906 million (compared to €506 million in 2023), marking a remarkable increase of nearly 80%. This growth is mainly attributed to the significant expansion of exports in mineral fuels, lubricants, and related materials. During the same period, Greek imports from Egypt amounted to €1.3 billion (compared to €1.4 billion in 2023), registering a decrease of around 12%. Overall, bilateral trade exceeded €2 billion, reflecting a 12% increase compared to 2023.
Greece ranks fourth among foreign investors in Egypt, with over 200 Greek companies maintaining an active presence and operations in the country. Notably, Greek investments nearly doubled between 2023 and 2024, reaching €12.1 million from €5.8 million the previous year—an indication of growing trust from the Greek business community in Egypt’s investment environment.
Participants in Discover Egypt expressed strong interest in expanding business partnerships with Egyptian companies, recognizing Egypt’s strategic role in North Africa. Finally, it was announced that a business delegation to Cairo is planned for December 2025, aiming to further strengthen the Greek-Egyptian business presence and cooperation.
