Athens to Host 2023 EBAN Annual Congress, global meeting point for business angels and startups

Athens, 20 May 2022 | The next annual congress of the European Business Angels Network (EBAN), the most important annual event for European startups seeking funding, will be hosted in Athens, on 24-26 April 2023. More than 500 investors from around the world are expected in Athens, to meet with startups from across Europe and get to know the Greek startup and early-stage ecosystem. The event is co-hosted by Enterprise Greece and EBAN, with the Hellenic Business Angels Network (HeBAN) as an official partner.

The announcement of this important landmark for Greece was made by the Director of EBAN, Jacopo Losso, on 19 May 2022, during the EBAN Annual Congress 2022, in Cork, Ireland, with CEO of Enterprise Greece, George Filiopoulos, and the co-founder of HeBAN, Panagiotis Ketikidis, present.

Mr. Losso said: “The members of EBAN are delighted to be hosting their congress in Athens, for the first time, in 2023. We wish our annual congress to celebrate and share with the rest of the world the amazing progress Greece is making in innovation, entrepreneurship and investment. EBAN, Enterprise Greece and HeBAN will jointly contribute to bridge the Greek startup ecosystem with business angels from all over the world.”

In his remarks, Mr. Filiopoulos referred to the growing Greek startup ecosystem and stated: “The explosive rise of the Greek start-up ecosystem over the last decade has drawn increasing attention to Greece’s tech potential and prospects. Funding for Greek startups more than tripled in 2021 and the first Greek unicorn – Vivawallet – emerged earlier this year in a deal with JP Morgan. Silmilar deals are expected to follow in the near future. At the same time, leading tech multinationals – such as Microsoft, Amazon, NTT Data – are investing in Greece, further solidifying its position as a flourishing tech and innovation hub in Southeast Europe.”

EBAN Board Member and HeBAN co-founder, Panagiotis Ketikidis, added: “We at HeBAN, the Hellenic Business Angels Network, are proud of our role in bringing Europe’s largest and most recognized international business angel event to Athens. HeBAN has been an active member of EBAN for many years and now is the best time for the international angel community to pay particular attention to the booming Greek startup and early-stage ecosystem.”

Leading up to the 2023 EBAN Athens Annual Congress, Enterprise Greece will also host, in Athens on June 23 and 24, 2022, the Hellenic International Business Angels Summit (HIBAS 2022), in cooperation with the Hellenic Business Angels Network (HeBAN) and the European Business Network Angels (EBAN). At the conference, 50 angel investors from around the world are expected to conduct private meetings with Greek startups. For more information: https://ibasummit.org/register/
