Big 5 Saudi International Building & Construction Show

Greek companies broadened their participation at this month’s The Big 5 Saudi International Building and Construction Show to include — for the first time ever —

Greek technology firms, as well as traditional building materials producers.

The Greek delegation to the show, which was held 5–8 March 2018 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, included nine companies specializing in solar systems, stone and marble, paints and insulation, door and interior design, as well as technology and informatics. The successful inclusion of technology firms in the Greek delegation is part of Enterprise Greece’s successful strategy to support the technology and information technology industry, not only at exhibitions particular to the sector, but also in those industries where information technology is becoming a key growth driver.

The Saudi Big 5 Show is emerging as one of the leading building and construction shows in the region, with 500 companies from around the world attending this year’s event. The show drew more than 15,000 visitors, a significant increase over 2017. This year’s Greek participation also marked the 8th consecutive year that Enterprise Greece has sent a delegation to the exhibition.

The trade fair comes as the Saudi government implements its Saudi Vision 2030 program to diversify the kingdom’s economy away from its reliance on petroleum. Efforts by event organizer, dmg events, to target new visitors and schedule three workshops on project management, technology and innovation, and sustainability for the Saudi construction and building materials sector, helped drive the increased attendance at this year’s event. The workshops attracted both architects and civil engineers, who hold top decision-making positions in many major projects, as well as construction company executives.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Ziad Bassam Al-Bassam, Vice President of the 60,000-member Jeddah Chamber of Commerce, and who also visited the Greek pavilion to meet with the Greek exhibitors present. During the show, the Greek stand also hosted the Commercial Attaché of the Consulate General of Greece in Jeddah, Mr. Theodore Xypolias, who likewise met with the Greek exhibitors and briefed them on the market situation in Saudi Arabia.
