Business Mission to India, 19-24/2/2024 – Strengthening Greek- Indian economic relations
Athens, February 27, 2024 | Aiming to further strengthen Greek-Indian economic relations, a business mission to India was held from February 19 to 24 2024, led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for Economic Diplomacy and External Affairs, Mr. Costas Fragogianni. The Secretary General of International Economic Relations and Outreach of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and President of Enterprise Greece, Mrs. Myra Myrogianni, the CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, and a delegation of 65 Greek companies from the sectors of ICT, Health Sciences, Energy, Construction, Shipping, Industry, Audio-Visual Producers, Agri-Food, Supply Chain, Real Estate, and Tourism.
Enterprise Greece, with the support of the Greek Embassy in India and in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII India) and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), co-organized a series of conferences, visits, and networking activities in three major cities of India: New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. The aim of the mission was to promote Greek exports to one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, to promote investment and export opportunities, and of course, to deepen the cooperation between the two business communities.
Concluding more than 1,000 B2B meetings in all three destinations, Greek businesses expressed their satisfaction with the quality, participation, and responsiveness of Indian businesses. It is worth mentioning that the meetings were attended by over 250 companies in South Delhi and over 200 in Mumbai and Bangalore, respectively.
The mission started from New Delhi, where the delegation held high-level meetings with government officials, industry leaders, and potential business partners. A roundtable discussion on Greece was organized under the title: “Greece – A Tale of Success” in New Delhi as part of the 2nd CII India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave. The acronym GGDOSE and President of Enterprise Greece, Ms. Myra Myrogiannis, addressed a greeting, followed by a speech-presentation by the CEO of the company, Mr. Marinos Giannopoulos, on Greece’s investment and commercial proposal to India. The CEO of ECG, Mr. Grigoris Stamatopoulos; the General Manager of Finance of GEK TERNA Group, Ms. Penelope Lazaridou; and the head of business development of the Indian GMR, Mr. Amresh Ohri, also took the floor.
The roundtable was preceded by the participation of the Foreign Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Costas Fragogiannis, as Guest of Honor, in the thematic section of the Conclave that concerned the development of Europe-India cooperation in the fields of Shipping and the Blue Economy. In the remaining thematic sections of the Conclave, Mr. Giorgos Prokopiou, Founder of Sea Traders S.A., spoke; Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd and Dynagas Ltd., Mr. Athanasios Liagos, President of the Hellenic Ports Association and Executive Chairman of ΟΛTH; and Mr. Konstantinos Bikas, Director of International Business Development of Mytilineos Energy and Metals.
Finally, shortly before departure for Mumbai, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU) was signed between Enterprise Greece and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), but also between Joist Innovation Park and Adani University, Eurobank with NPCI (UPI), and Fairfax, Eurolife FFH Insurance Group and LTIMindtree.
This was followed by the Business Forum “Development of Economic Cooperation between Greece and India: Future Prospects” in Mumbai, which was welcomed by the AU, the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who spoke about the future of the strategic cooperation with India, which, as he said, is appearing brilliantly. He invited Indian businessmen to invest and start an economic partnership that will further upgrade the bilateral relations of the two countries. The Prime Minister, after underlining that the Greek economy has changed, referred to the upgrading of relations with India at a geopolitical, defence, and economic level.
The proceedings of the forum were opened with brief greetings by the Greek Foreign Minister, Mr. Costas Fragogiannis, and the responsible Minister for Industry of the Indian Region of Maharashtra, Mr. Shri Uday Samant. Among the speakers were GDOSE and President of Enterprise Greece, Ms. Myra Myrogiannis; the CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos; the President of EBEA, Ms. Sofias Kounenaki-Efraimoglou; the CEO of Endeavor, Mr. Panagiotis Karabinis; the CEO of Indian Greenstone Advisors, Mr. Rahul Goswani; the President and CEO of EKOME, Mr. Leonidas Christopoulos, who referred to the significant prospects for the development of synergies in the audiovisual production sector, given the competitive dynamics centers offered by Greece and the highly developed Indian film industry Bollywood, which is primarily based in Mumbai, and Mr. Panagiotis Hassapis, Executive Vice President of SEVE.
During the stay of the national delegation in Mumbai, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoU) was signed between Enterprise Greece and FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry).
The last stop of the business mission in India was Bangalore, where a Business Forum was held on the topic “Development of Economic Cooperation between Greece and India: Future Prospects.” The forum was greeted by the Greek Foreign Minister, Mr. Costas Fragogiannis, and the competent Indian Minister for Industry, Mr. Shri M. B. Patil. The CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos; the head of business development of the Indian Switz group, Mr. Adam Korakiwala; the founder and President of the Indian Gateway Group, Mr. Niraj Gemawat; and the CEO of TAIPED, Mr. Dimitrios Politis, also participated.
Finally, it is pointed out that:
1. The India-Greece Business Forums in Mumbai and Bangalore were attended by around 1200 Indian businessmen and institutions, and besides interesting discussions, 1000 B2B meetings were held.
2. Mumbai was chosen as the mission station as it is considered the financial capital of India and the center of its film industry, while Bangalore, as the Silicon Valley of India, provided the ideal backdrop for discussions in the ICT sector.
3. The Investment Opportunities presented were in Data Centers, Multilingual Call Centers/Service Centers, Mobile Marketing & Advertising, Software Development, Information Security Services, Smart Cities, ICT Device Assembly and Distribution, B2B Cloud Services, and Innovation Activities and Research.
4. The mission received support from both Greek and Indian government bodies, demonstrating the commitment of the two governments to strengthen bilateral ties.
