China Investment Promotion Activities

Athens, 11 December 2018| Enterprise Greece, the state investment and trade promotion agency, successfully organized a two-part investment promotion campaign in China earlier this month to showcase the country’s property and industrial sectors to the growing number of Chinese investors actively looking at Greek assets and opportunities.

The campaign, which is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to further deepen Greece’s extensive commercial ties with China, included Greek participation in LPS Shanghai 2018, 7-9 December, China’s leading luxury real-estate exhibition. Following the trade fair, Enterprise Greece organized a well-attended investment seminar in the city of Hangzhou 10 December, one of the leading hi-tech centers in China.

Five Greek real estate companies participated in the national stand at the LPS Shanghai 2018 show, which drew more than 12,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors from more than 35 countries this year. At the Greek kiosk Enterprise Greece executives, along with representatives from the participating companies, presented the investment opportunities in the Greek property market and the country’s highly-attractive Golden Visa Program, including in a special two-hour workshop dedicated to Greece. A presentation of the Greek program was also included in a special event for Chinese companies promoting similar projects.

According to the latest data from the Greek Ministry of Immigration Policy, Greece has awarded 3,404 Golden Visas to real estate investors this year, as of the end of September. Chinese investors top the list with 1,700 visas, followed by Russian investors with 450, and Turkish investors with 356. Including family members, a total 8,899 residence permits have been awarded under the program.

Following the exhibition, Enterprise Greece organized an investment seminar in Hangzhou to present investment opportunities in Greece to a targeted audience of eighty Chinese business executives. The executives included business leaders from the technology, tourism and real estate, financial services and energy sectors.

Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province and home to Chinese giant Alibaba, has a population of about 7 million and a GDP of €170 billion. The Hangzhou Technology Park is considered the Silicon Valley of China, hosting research centers of companies such as Motorola, Nokia, IBM and others.

The seminar was opened by George Zissimatos, member of the Board of Directors of Enterprise Greece, and Dimitrios Michas, head of the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs of the Consulate General of Greece in Shanghai. Enterprise Greece Investor Promotion Director Constantinos Angelopoulos, presented the investment opportunities in Greece and highlighted the sectors where the country holds a comparative advantage.
