Enterprise Greece in WindEurope 2023- Important prospects for “Green transition” project development in Greece
Athens, May 5, 2023 – The Greek Company of Investments and Foreign Trade – Enterprise Greece participated in WindEurope 2023, one of the most important international conferences on wind power, held in Copenhagen on April 25-28, 2023.
More than 15,000 people visited the conference, with the participation of 500 top companies of the sector, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, administrators, power providers and RES project development companies from all over the world, including 5 Greek companies.
During WindEurope 2023, issues on the achievement of energy safety and independence in the EU were discussed, as well as the reduction of energy prices, climate change and its effects on biodiversity and the supply chain of RES energy equipment. In particular, focus was placed on the following:
• The need to upgrade port infrastructure in South Europe, allowing ports to receive larger equipment required to develop both land and offshore wind parks.
• The expedition of licensing procedures in order to achieve the new EU goals for the involvement of RES in its energy mixture.
• The effects of inflation pressure and lack of raw materials and equipment manufacturing potential in the EU for the development of RES
• The significance of international connections and the unification of energy transfer systems, as well as the need to double related investments
• The electrification of economy, in order to increase electricity share from the current 25% in the EU to 75% by 2050.
During the fair, 18 meetings took place with the participation of important companies developing RES projects in Europe, emphasizing on the investment opportunities offered in our country for green transition and the technologies which can be utilized in this framework. During these meetings, foreign companies executives were updated on recent regulatory developments in the RES, the sector’s dynamics as well as the wide range of investment opportunities developed in the energy sector. A common conclusion was that our country is growing into a peripheral energy node in the SE Mediterranean, attracting more international investment interest.
It is worth noting that most of these companies are either looking for/developing investments in our country or are already active here. They are also planning further development with new investment schemes on emerging sectors of investment interest, such as offshore wind parks, green hydrogen, energy storage and other complementary services, including the Centers of Innovation and Best Practices (SSC-COE) for supply from Greece, specialized scientists services (Engineers, Software Development etc.) in global groups of companies and energy equipment manufacturers.
