Enterprise Greece supports the Greek fur industry

Athens, April 23rd, 2024 | The Greek Investment and Foreign Trade Company (Enterprise Greece) continues with even more dynamic and targeted actions its tangible support to the professionals of the Greek fur industry and, in cooperation with the Kastoria Chamber and Association of Furriers, is inviting buyers from outside Europe to the 49th International Fur Fair, which will take place from April 25th to 27th, 2024 in Kastoria.
Enterprise Greece actively supports the Greek fur industry, which has a long tradition and expertise in the production of high quality products and has done its utmost in the past in order to contribute to the national economy and the economic stability of Greece; however, the fur industry has now been severely affected by external factors, mainly by the effects of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.
Following an integrated action program, the first action for this year in order to support the fur industry, at the request of outward-oriented businesses in the sector and in cooperation with the Chamber of Kastoria, was to organize the national participation in the International Exhibition “The One Milano”, which was held from February 18th to 21st, 2024, at the Fiera Milano Rho exhibition area in Italy. This International Exhibition combines the art of Italian heritage with international aesthetics, premium craftsmanship, and values such as sustainability and innovation. Eleven Greek outward-oriented companies participated in the national delegation organized by Enterprise Greece, and had the opportunity to exhibit their products to more than 40,000 business people from 150 countries. Our country left a positive impression and raised great expectations for the future, since visitors and buyers showed a strong interest in Greek products. The Greek participants in the event, having received a positive response from the Milan market, stressed that participation and presence in live exhibitions is one of the main pillars for the promotion of Greek products abroad, since this serves as a breeding ground for B2B meetings with international buyers.
The First Vice President of the Chamber of Kastoria, Mr. Alkiviadis Ballis, referring to the successful Greek presence in this exhibition, said: “On behalf of the Chamber of Kastoria, we would like to thank Enterprise Greece which, since 2007, as a former OPE (Foreign Trade Organization) and “Invest In Greece”, has been standing by Greek furriers. After this year’s THE ONE MILANO event, which has left a positive impact on all participants, we hope to repeat the organization of the national mission as part of an upcoming event, and to maintain our cooperation for other missions supporting the sector.”
As part of our dynamic support of the sector and following last year’s successful business mission – with 20 Korean companies-buyers from the fur industry – an invitation is being extended to buyers from outside Europe for another year, within the context of the 49th International Fur Fair, which will be held from April 25th to 27th, 2024 in Kastoria. Following a request by sector professionals, business missions from Korea, as well as from the USA and Canada, are being hosted, in order to promote Greek fur and to conclude business agreements.
More specifically, for the first time, Enterprise Greece, in cooperation with the Office of Economic & Commercial Affairs for New York, has planned and implements the action of inviting fur product buyers from the USA and Canada. The total number of trade visitors amounts to 25, 16 of which from the USA and Canadian markets.
The President of the Kastoria Association of Furriers “Profitis Elias”, Mr. Akis Tsoukas, said: “We extend our warm thanks to Enterprise Greece for the excellent cooperation for yet another year, since it organized the visit of trade visitors from America, Canada and Korea to the 49th International Fur Fair of Kastoria, which will take place from April 25th to 27th, 2024. The arrival of trade delegations, in cooperation with the Office of Economic & Commercial Affairs, will significantly contribute to the increase of our exports to the Greek fur markets, and to the strengthening of the fur sector’s outward orientation, which is one of the main axes of economic development for our region.”
The CEO of Enterprise Greece, Dr. Marinos Giannopoulos, said the following: “In an admittedly difficult environment, such as the one shaped for the fur sector, it is imperative to continuously search for new target markets for these products, in order to compensate for the loss of the Russian market and to restore the Greek exporters’ activity to the desired levels. Enterprise Greece stands by Greek fur manufacturers, aiming at strengthening the sector, either by supporting national participation in International Exhibitions abroad, or by business missions organized in cooperation with the Offices of Economic and Commercial Affairs, as part of the International Fur Fair held every spring in Kastoria.”
