Expo 2017 Exhibition

The future of “Green Energy” is the central theme of the international EXPO 2017 exhibition, which began June 10 and will run through Sept. 10, in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The exhibition includes participants from 93 countries and 22 international organizations, with pavilions dedicated to “FUTURE ENERGY” and multifaceted presentations on future energy innovations. At their national pavilions, countries showcase their strategies and initiatives for energy conservation and the protection of the environment.

At the Greek stand on Sunday, June 11, 2017, the Greek delegation welcomed more than 500 visitors to celebrate the inauguration of the EXPO 2017 exhibition, one of the world’s leading economic and cultural events.

Greece was represented by Commissioner General Elias Xanthakos; General Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Deputy General Commissioner, as well as Chairman of Enterprise Greece, Mr. Christos Staikos.

The event was also attended by the Consul General of Greece in Astana, Mr. Manolis Androulakis, and took place on the day after the official inauguration of the exhibition. It was further honoured with the presence of 17 heads of state, including those of Russia, China, Mongolia, Spain, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Turkmenistan. The 450 square metre Greek pavilion showcases the modern image of our country as an investment and tourism destination and, above all, extensive Greek experience in energy resource management and renewable energy. Particular emphasis has been placed on highlighting Greece’s geostrategic advantage as an energy hub for the Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and Europe.

In the context of the EXPO 2017 exhibition, a ministerial-level working group on energy issues was held in Astana. Greece was represented by the Greek Ambassador to Astana, Mr. Alexandros Katranis.

The Greek commissioners also met with their counterparts from The Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Serbia and Japan, with the Japanese delegation requesting Greek support for Japan’s bid to host the EXPO 2025 exhibition.
