Foodex Japan 2023: Greek products entering Japan’s market

Athens, March 16, 2023 | Greek food was once more present at Foodex Japan, the largest food and beverage exhibition in Asia. Foodex was organized on March 7-10, 2023 at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center. The exhibition was attended by 43 countries with 2,562 exhibitors, while it attracted 73,789 thousand trade visitors from Japan and other Asian countries.

The Greek pavilion was organized by Enterprise Greece and hosted 16 exhibitors with Greek products: olive oil, olives, honey, wine vinegar, salt, liquer, tsikoudia, saffron, mastic and mastic oil, raisins, dried figs, jams, nuts, baked goods and snacks, cheeses, fruit preserves and juices.

Region of Central Greece sponsored the participation in the national pavilion of 6 local companies – 4 wineries and 2 dried figs producers.

Greek exhibitors were extremely satisfied with the number of visitors to the pavilion and the enthusiasm shown for Greek products. Greek companies held more than 1.200 trade meetings with buyers from Japan, Taiwan Province of China, South Korea, China and the United States.

Japan is a market of 125 million high-income people, offering great opportunities for Greek products. In 2022, Greek food exports to Japan increased by 39.2% and reached 22.9 million euros. The most important food exported to Japan is peach preserves, nuts, cereal and olive oil, while there is increased interest in feta cheese and honey.

The national participation was honoured with the presence of H.E. Ambassador of Greece to Japan, Mr Dimitrios Karamitsos – Tsiras, who visited the pavilion and got acquainted with all exhibitors.
