Greece as a leading investment destination in the tourism sector – The dynamic presence of Enterprise Greece

Athens, 10 May 2022 | Greece’s participation at the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF), organized in Berlin on 3 to 5 May 2022, showcased Greece’s leading position as an investment destination in the field of tourism. It is estimated that this year more than 2,300 senior industry executives participated in the conference.

World renowned hotel chains, project development companies, and investment funds consider Greece a destination for long-term investments, while focusing their interest on projects with a minimal environmental footprint and high architectural aesthetics. The latest trend of developing projects in lesser-known destinations remains strong and will generate new tourism installations.

Enterprise Greece conducted sixty-five (65) private meetings, during IHIF, forty (40) of which were related to follow-up with contacts, who have already expressed interest in investing in Greece.

It is worth noting that there was a strong interest in Greece from both new industry players, as well as from the established hotel brands. This confirms that Greece remains a key investment destination for leading hotels seeking to expand and consolidate their presence through acquisitions and strategic partnerships, both in the boutique and the luxury hotel segment.

Enterprise Greece is a long-time participant in IHIF. However, the agency’s presence this year was exceptionally dynamic. In addition to the specially designed booth and the organization of a roundtable discussion dedicated to Greece, Enterprise Greece participated in panels that focused on destination development and investment.

Thirty-five (35) industry representatives, a particularly large number for such an event, participated in the breakfast roundtable and attended the presentation of CEO of Enterprise Greece, Georgios Filiopoulos, who updated participants on the latest data concerning the Greek economy, as well as the country’s tourism sector and its excellent prospects.

Present were senior executives of both Greek and international industry leaders. Among them: Alexander Robinson, Senior Manager Industry Partners of STR; Natalia Strafti, Managing Partner of Grivalia Hospitality; Konstantinos Santikos, Managing Director of Santikos Collection; Tiago Venancio, Hotel Development of Fosun Tourism Group-FTC Hotels; Maria Zarraluqui, Global Development VP of Meliá Hotels International; and Dimitris Manikis, President EMEA of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

In the panel on destination development and investments, Mr. Filiopoulos referred extensively to the sub-sectors of tourism and hospitality, which the country has made a priority, as well as to Greece’s initiatives to improve the investment environment in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

IHIF is considered the leading international conference for global tourism investment and has been held each year for the last 24 years, bringing together senior executives, tourism ministers, and government officials from around the world to discuss investment in the hospitality industry. https://www.ihif.com
