Greece made an excellent impression at the International Exhibition Big 5 Global 2023
Athens, 15 December 2023 | More impressive than any other year was the participation of 57 Greek companies in the building materials and construction sector in the “Big 5 Global” organized by Enterprise Greece which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 04 to 07 December.
It is the most important International Exhibition in the Middle East, which showcases the widest variety of products and services in the construction sector to trade visitors, not only from the region of the United Arab Emirates and the Middle East but also from the neighboring countries of Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, India and Sub-Saharan and North Africa.
During the Big 5 Global, Enterprise Greece, with its own office in the main corridor of the exhibition, supported the national participation, which was characterized by the dynamic presence of Greek companies with their innovative products and the most intense advertising promotion of the country to date at the central point’s inside and outside the exhibition area. Elements that contributed to attracting even more visitors to the Greek pavilion.
Greece had for the 4th consecutive year, the largest national presence in the “Big 5 Global” Startup City area, with the participation of 8 Greek Startups, which promoted their innovative technologies in the field of building materials and construction.
Also, for the second time, a space of high architectural aesthetics was created for the promotion of Greek Marble, as Enterprise Greece in cooperation with the Association of Marble Enterprises of Macedonia and Thrace (SEMMTH) launched coordinated actions in 2022 to promote this exceptional product abroad, within the framework of the 3-year Strategic Plan in the industry.
It is worth noting that its exports of building materials to the Middle East in 2022, amounted to 0.18% ($ 102.1 million) of the total volume of Greek exports and had an increase of 3.9% compared to the exports of the sector for 2021.
During the exhibition, two special events were organized:
a) On the first day of the exhibition, in the presence of the Management of the Organization, a Welcome Reception was held at the stand for the promotion of Greek marble, in honor of the 57 Greek companies of the national participation. The event was honored by the presence of the Ambassador of Greece to the UAE, Mr. Antonios Alexandridis, the Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Panagiotis Lempesis, the Deputy Regional Governor of Central Greece, Mr. Dimitrios Vourdanos, as well as the Entrepreneurship and Extroversion Consultant of the Region of Central Greece, Mrs. Eleftheria Tsagaraki.
b) In the area of Start-Up City, a presentation of the ecosystem of start-ups of the construction sector in the Gulf countries took place. The panel of speakers included the Executive Director and Executive Member of the Board of Directors. Ms. Betty Alexandropoulou, who spoke about the startup ecosystem and Enterprise Greece’s support actions, as well as the possibilities of their involvement in projects in the Middle East.
The Executive Director and Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Enterprise Greece, Mrs. Betty Alexandropoulou stated: “This year’s national participation in the Big 5 Global 2023 fills us with optimism about the huge prospects that appear for this sector in the coming years. At this year’s event, we managed to show and highlight innovative Greek products and attract a record number of visitors and entrepreneurs. We also enjoyed the great success of the branding of Greek marble, which we had presented at last year’s event in collaboration with the Association of Marble Enterprises of Macedonia-Thrace. Finally, it is worth mentioning the large participation of Greek startups in the construction industry, which confirms that our country is a rising force of innovation and extroversion.”
In his statements, Ambassador Antonios Alexandridis stressed the following: “I had the honor and pleasure to visit the BIG 5 building materials exhibition and talk with the 57 Greek exhibitors. The particularly high participation, 4th most numerous among all countries, confirms the dynamism and extrovert character of the Greek economy and, at the same time, the opportunities presented by the UAE and the wider region for Greek entrepreneurship. Our Embassy, in cooperation with Enterprise Greece, which successfully organized the National Participation, will remain a helper and supporter of the efforts of Greek extrovert businesses.»
