Greek Delegation at Cyprus
Athens, 19 March 2019 | Enterprise Greece, in cooperation with the Economic and Commercial Diplomats Club in Greece and the Embassy of Cyprus in Athens, this month organized an extraordinary trade mission of European and other commercial attaches to Cyprus to promote the island’s business ecosystem.
The mission, which took place 13 to 16 March 2019, included 43 representatives from the 23 embassies of: Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, the United States of America, Italy, Jordan, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Moldova, South Africa, Hungary, Uzbekistan, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden and Finland.
Enterprise Greece board member Charalambos Kasimis – who is also Secretary General for Agricultural Policy and Management of Community Resources at the Ministry of Rural Development and Food — led the mission representing the Greek government.
The aim of the visit was to promote business opportunities in Cyprus, particularly in the sectors with strong business and investment interest, and encourage the outward orientation of the Cypriot economy and enterprises.
The mission’s program included working visits to the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry of Cyprus, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, and the University of Cyprus, as well as a seminar organized by the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Cyprus) and the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA). Delegates also held 130 business-to-business meetings with export companies, which were organized in cooperation with the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and the Federation of Employers and Industrialists (OEB) of Cyprus.
The mission included visits to the following companies and sites:
- Petrolina Holdings Public Ltd (petroleum company)
- P & P Ice Cream Group (ice cream products)
- Kallinikio Municipal Athienou Museum (Haloumi production)
- Historical Museum of Koumandaria Zoopigi
- Ayia Napa Marina
- VTT Vassiliko Ltd (petroleum storage and management terminal)
The steady growth of the Cypriot economy in recent years, combined with increased liquidity in the island’s restructured banking sector, have created a new dynamic in the labor market and a positive environment for international investors. Cyprus’s regulatory framework, coupled with its competitive advantage in a range of traditional and innovative economic sectors, has made it an attractive business destination worldwide.
The event was supported by Cyprus’s Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, the Ministry of Tourism, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Federation of Employers and Industrialists, Invest Cyprus (which has a Cooperation Protocol with Enterprise Greece dating from 2012), Enterprise Europe Network and the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA).
