Greek participation at the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE)
Athens, 25 November 2022 | Twelve Greek agri-food companies participated in the 5th China International Import Expo (CIIE). CIIE is China’s largest import fair, attracting more than 2,800 exhibitors from 127 countries, and it is estimated that trade deals worth 73 billion dollars were signed during the event.
Enterprise Greece organized the national pavilion at CIIE, which took place in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November 2022. The participating Greek agri-food companies had the opportunity to showcase their high-quality products, including the outstanding olive oil and wine of Greece, as well as specialty products like saffron.
This year’s national participation in CIIE was further enhanced with a digital booth created by Enterprise Greece to provide information to visitors about the business opportunities that Greece offers. The aim is to boost bilateral trade, estimated at $12.5 billion for 2021, between the two countries further.
Marinos Giannopoulos, CEO of Enterprise Greece, referring to the Greek presence at the exhibition stated: “With the active support of Enterprise Greece, the presence of Greek companies in the Chinese market continues to grow stronger. Greece, as a strategic partner of China, has been participating in the CIIE since its inception in 2018. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited China during the second CIIE in 2019, immediately after taking office, which demonstrates the importance of the Chinese market for Greece and the role CIIE plays in promoting Greek products. Both Greece and China are committed to a free and open global trading system and share a vision of sustainable prosperity for our people and the world.”
The Consul General of Greece in Shanghai, George Partheniou, after visiting the national pavilion, stated: “The possibilities for economic cooperation between Greece and China are many, mainly in the shipping and tourism sectors. The strengthening of Greece’s exports to China, with the attraction of new investments from China, was recently discussed by the foreign ministers of the two countries, on the sidelines of the 55th ASEAN Summit in Cambodia.”
