Greek Pavilion at LPS Shanghai

The first Greek pavilion at the LPS Shanghai 2016 property investment show from 9 to 11 December 2016, organised by Enterprise Greece, was a great success. The pavilion hosted seven property promotion, management, and development companies, each with their own separate space, which presented the Greek property market to thousands of visitors. According to the organisers, more than 115 exhibitors from 42 countries took part in the event, promoting property investment itself, but also programmes to acquire residency and citizenship by investing in property. More than 6.000 visitors from 10 countries attended the show, most of them from various regions of China and other Asian countries. Enterprise Greece officials provided visitors to the Greek pavilion with information about the country’s residency programmes and the opportunities for non-European citizens to acquire a residence permit if they invest in Greece or buy property. The seven Greek companies promoted both their own and their clients’ properties.

The Greek pavilion is estimated to have been visited by more than 2.000 potential investors, and won praise both for its design and for the comprehensive information it provided to visitors.

As part of the three-day show, Enterprise Greece officials held meetings with more than 400 Chinese investors and businesspeople who were interested in investing in property in Greece, and in particular in the Golden Visa Programme, which provides permanent residence permit to non-European citizens and their families when they purchase property worth more than €250.000.

Within the exhibition, but also on its margins, Enterprise Greece officials and representatives of the Greek companies made nine (9) investment presentations to targeted audiences of Chinese businesspeople and investors. During these events, the investment environment in Greece was presented, along with investment opportunities in property and tourism sectors.

According to figures from the Greek Ministry of Interior, by 30 November 2016, the programme granting residence permits to nationals of non-EU countries who have bought property in Greece had granted 1.486 permits to property investors. The top country for purchasers is China, with 628 permits, followed by Russia with 343, then Egypt with 68 and in the fourth place Lebanon with 66. If permits granted to relatives of investors are included, the top country is China, with 1463 permits. Russia comes second with 776, followed by Iraq with 208 and Lebanon with 180.

Enterprise Greece is actively promoting the programme with initiatives in specific target countries, and is already planning to take part in relevant exhibitions in 2017.

At the same time, on Monday, 12 December 2016, Enterprise Greece officials and the Greek consulate in Shanghai organised an investment seminar on investment opportunities in Greece, which was attended by more than 30 entrepreneurs and business executives. The seminar was addressed by the Greek consul in Shanghai, Vassilis Xiros.
