Greek-Saudi Business Forum: Greece hosts Saudi Minister of Investment and Business Delegation

Athens, 30 May 2022 | Greece welcomes a Saudi business delegation led by the Minister of Investment, H.E. Khalid Al Falih, who is visiting Athens in the context of the 5th Joint Ministerial Committee of Greece and Saudi Arabia taking place from 29 to 31 May, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Enterprise Greece co-hosting a business forum for Greek and Saudi companies.
The Saudi business delegation includes senior executives from fifty-nine (59) companies, from key sectors of the economy, including: energy, construction, tourism, and logistics. The business forum included private (B2B) meetings with Greek businesses and exploratory site visits, in order to introduce the Saudi Arabian delegation to all the investment opportunities Greece has to offer.
The high-level Greek-Saudi Business Forum aims to further enhance and promote bilateral trade between Greece and Saudi Arabia. Speakers at the Forum included the Minister of Development and Investments, Adonis Georgiadis, the Deputy Minister of Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis, the Secretary General of International Economic Affairs and Openness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of Enterprise Greece, Ioannis Smyrlis, and the CEO of Enterprise Greece, George Filiopoulos.
The presentation of Enterprise Greece at the Forum highlighted investment opportunities in the traditional powerhouse sectors of the Greek economy, like agri-food and tourism, but also in rapidly emerging growth sectors including RES, logistics, tech and innovation. Participating Greek and Saudi businesses held 234 B2B meetings in connection with the Forum.
The main topics discussed during the Forum were:
• Shipping, transport and logistics and the impact of climate change and new environmental regulations.
• The resilience and enduring draw of the Greek tourism industry, which in 2021 managed to recover 47% of arrivals and 59% of travel revenues relative to pre-pandemic levels.
• Energy, energy security and the need for energy transition.
• Enhancing growth and business synergies through innovation, research and technology.
• Food security and the role the Greek food & beverage industry can play in food security for the greater region.
