Invest in Taste

Athens, 26 October 2018| Greek exporters participated in record numbers at this week’s SIAL Paris 2018, the largest international food exhibition in the world held 21-25 October 2018, with more than a hundred Greek food & beverage companies joining the national delegation to the fair.
At this year’s SIAL Paris, the Greek delegation – organized by Enterprise Greece — was the 6th largest, with 109 countries and 7,000 exhibitors participating. The number of visitors to the exhibition exceeded 160,000, confirming the primacy of the SIAL Paris fair to the world’s F&B industry.
The Greek pavilion, covering approximately 2,100 square meters, hosted 105 exporting companies, as well the regions of Attica, North Aegean, Central Greece and the Achaia Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The increase in this year’s Greek participation reflects the positive developments in the Greek export sector, which grew by 16% (including petroleum products) in the first eight months of 2018, and the stepped up efforts of Greek enterprises to export and penetrate foreign markets.
The slogan of the Greek pavilion this year — Invest in Taste — sends the message that choosing Greek products is an investment in taste, quality and well-being. At the same time, it is an open invitation to foreign investors to invest in the dynamic agro-food sector of Greece.
The Greek exhibitors held a total of more than 10,000 business meetings, during which they had the opportunity to present the best food products produced in our country and to promote them to professionals and businesses from all over the world.
The Greek participation included the specially organized Greece Gourmet Kitchen — run by renowned chef Dina Nicolaou — that allowed hundreds of visitors to sample the exceptional flavors of the Greek cuisine and Mediterranean diet. On Monday, October 22, Enterprise Greece organized a Greece Gourmet wine tasting presentation, to promote outstanding Greek wines to French chefs, food and wine journalists, and connoisseurs.
The national pavilion was honored with the presence of Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Mr. Vassilis Kokkalis, who was accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece to France, Aglaia Balta.
Deputy Minister Kokkalis, impressed by the Greek participation, said: “Businesses, chambers of commerce, regional authorities, the Greek government, we have all joined together for this major, global exhibition… Greek participation has surpassed all expectations and shows that Greece is turning a page. This is a new Greece, a Greece of prosperity, creation and extroversion. The Greek government supports entrepreneurship, especially that related to the primary sector and the processing of agricultural food products.”
Enterprise Greece Chairman and CEO, Grigoris Stergioulis said: “Greek companies are standing tall and looking the competition of much larger countries squarely in the eye. This is the new Greece that is working to establish Greek products around the world. Young people, full of new ideas and enthusiasm, are staking out our common goal: a much better future. “
