Investment Roadshow to the US

Athens, 19 June 2019 | The Enterprise Greece Investment Roadshow in the United States of America was completed with particularly encouraging results for Greece. The mission was organized in the framework of the official visit of the Deputy Minister of Finance, George Houliarakis, to the US and included three stops: Washington DC, New York and San Francisco.

At the first stop in Washington DC, a series of meetings were held with institutional bodies and organizations such as the US Chamber of Commerce, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, in collaboration with the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce and the Athens Stock Exchange. The meetings highlighted the achievements of the Greek economy following the completion of the fiscal adjustment program and presented the sectors of the Greek economy with a strong investment profile. The meetings also highlighted the role of Enterprise Greece in cataloguing and seeking out specific investment opportunities, providing information regarding the business environment, and facilitating all stages of the investment process.

In New York City, the second stop, Enterprise Greece supported and participated for the third consecutive year in the 8th Greek Investment Forum organized by the Athens Stock Exchange and the Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce. At this year’s Forum, there were sixty-one investment funds present, which were, among other things, provided with information about the investment opportunities that Greece presents in strategic sectors of the economy.

At the same time, the agency, taking advantage of its presence in New York, organized a roundtable briefing to present country’s investment proposal in detail to a target audience of twenty-five US companies in the fields of technology, tourism & real estate, financial services and energy.

Finally, in San Francisco, an investment seminar was organized by Enterprise Greece, aimed at promoting the Greek technology sector and emerging start-up ecosystem. Sixty representatives of venture capital companies, investment funds and angel investors from the US market attended the seminar and were given presentations by the start-ups SpotlightPOS, Syncbnb and Feel Clinic, which were part of the mission.

To highlight the Greek technology sector and its comparative advantages, particularly in terms of knowledge and talent, an already established business with significant international activity – Helic, a subsidiary of ANSYS Inc. – was invited to present its experience.

Worth noting is that the seminar was held in cooperation with the local office of the EIT Digital organization in San Francisco, which serves as a link between the European Technology Market and Silicon Valley, and with the active and valuable contribution of the Greek Consulate in San Francisco.

The mission was completed with on-site visits to the Plug&Play Accelerator at Singularity University, as well as Google and Facebook.
