Mission to Belgrade, Bucharest & Sofia

Enterprise Greece, the state trade and investment agency, is pleased to announce the successful conclusion of a five-day, three-country roadshow to Belgrade, Bucharest, and Sofia involving a delegation of 25 Greek food and beverage companies.
The mission to the Balkans was highly successful, taking place 20-24 November 2017, and organized by Enterprise Greece in collaboration with the Commercial Affairs Offices of the local embassies of Greece in the countries visited. The mission is the latest initiative that builds on a series of B2B business meetings that took place in Athens and Thessaloniki in May of this year.
In the three capitals, Greek companies met with more than 150 buyers representing importers, hotels, retail chains, distribution companies, and delicatessens. Some 600 business meetings took place over the five days, laying a strong foundation for future commercial agreements.
In Belgrade, the first stop for the delegation on 20 November, business meetings were held on the first day, with Greek companies visiting selected local Serb companies on the second day.
In Bucharest, business meetings were held 22 November, and a seminar was organized on the same day with the title: Hellenic Forum on Agriculture, Food & Beverages and Related Channels of Distribution. The seminar was organized by the Hellenic-Romanian Chamber of Commerce under the auspices of the Embassy of Greece in Romania.
In connection with the seminar, Enterprise Greece President Christos Staikos said: “The Greek economy is recovering, with both foreign investment and exports strengthening. Already in the nine months of 2017, we have seen an increase in both exports (to €21.16 billion, representing a 13.5% increase compared to 2016, according to ELSTAT) and foreign direct investment (to €2.988 billion, representing a 68.6% increase over 2016, according to the Bank of Greece). For our part, we are designing and implementing a coherent and focused program to further enhance the outward orientation of Greek businesses, and our trade mission to Belgrade, Bucharest, Sofia is part of this effort. In particular, the F&B sector is showing significant momentum, and we are stepping up our efforts to promote F&B exports, as we believe there is potential for growth.”
In Sofia, Greek business people had the opportunity to visit with selected local companies in their industries, while further business meetings were held on Friday 24 November, the last day of the trade mission. Apart from their scheduled meetings with local companies, Greek companies were also given a special briefing on market conditions in the Bulgarian market and advice on how to conduct business there.
The Greek participants in the mission expressed their satisfaction with the trip. They also stressed that such initiatives make an immediate and positive contribution to the development of commercial relations and to the promotion of Greek products in foreign markets.
