Prowein 2019 Exhibition

Athens, 7 March 2019 | Greece will present 50 Greek producers of fine wines and traditional tsipouro at the Prowein 2019 International Exhibition in Düsseldorf, Germany this month, one Europe’s pre-eminent trade fairs for the wine and spirits industry. Enterprise Greece will be organizing the national Greek pavilion as part of its special wine export promotion program.
With more than 300 local grape varieties, a wide variety of terroirs and, above all, passionate and dedicated wine makers, the new generation of Greek wines has earned legitimate recognition on the international wine scene. The industry has made great strides in recent years on the strength of the wide range of fine Greek wines: from crisp whites with metallic notes and excellent acidity, to elegant reds with velvety textures suitable to accompany the world’s finest cuisines.
“Greek wines create a new world of flavor based on the unique accents of local grape varieties and the multidimensional terroir of Greece,” said Antonis Gravanis, Director of International Exhibitions, Agricultural Products, Food and Drinks.
Greece offers enormous commercial opportunities in wine and gastronomy. At Prowein and other international fairs, the prospects for the sector are a major draw for international buyers interested in promoting Greek products to the global market.
During the three days of the exhibition this year, March 17-19, the Greek pavilion (Hall 17, B121) will offer visitors a chance to taste a wide variety of Greek vintages at a national wine bar, which will operate alongside exhibitors’ stands and where each winery will present its own wines.
Dating from the 14th century, a part of the Greek wine tradition has been the production of tsipouro, an elegant pomace distillate with a protected designation of origin and which is attracting more and more interest in the alcoholic beverages segment. To showcase Greek tsipouro, Enterprise Greece has created the Greek Spirits Bar (Hall 12, E50) — with the slogan “Let’s drink tsipouro” – where experts will guide visitors on the different varieties of tsipouro: with or without anise, fresh from the still or aged in barrels.
The Texsom Wine Awards at the Greek Pavilion will take place Monday, March 18 at 15:30 in Hall 17, B121. After an introduction by Master of Wine, Caro Maurer, visitors will have the opportunity to taste some exquisite Greek wines, accompanied by appetizers.
