Remarks by I. Smyrlis at the GA of ELITOUR

Athens, 20 April 2021 The Secretary General for International Economic Affairs, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Chairman of Enterprise Greece, Mr. Ioannis Smyrlis, participated in the General Assembly of ELITOUR and referred to the recent signing of a cooperation agreement between Enterprise Greece and ELITOUR, which aims to capitalize a highly dynamic and promising sector of the Greek economy, medical tourism.


In the medical tourism sector, only Greek companies participate providing innovative and technologically advanced health services, at competitive costs and contribute to Greece being included among the particularly attractive destinations for medical tourism, all year round. There are areas, such as artificial insemination, where the country has received praise for its advance methods, as well as high success rates.

The Secretary General for International Economic Affairs, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Enterprise Greece, Mr. Ioannis Smyrlis, pointed out that Greece relies heavily on the large revenues from tourism sector, one of the most important sectors of Greek economy. The common goal should be, to improve the services provided in the health sector and to seek synergies that will reduce costs on the one hand, and on the other hand attract customers of high income, that will ultimately reflect on tourism revenues.

Both Enterprise Greece as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs focus on the promotion of medical tourism, effectively contributing to the attraction of new tourists in the medical sector, as well as potential foreign investment in a particularly dynamic sector.
