Summer Fancy Food Show 2023- The Greek Mediterranean diet starred in the largest food and drinks exhibition in North America

Athens, July 5, 2023 | 29 Greek companies participated in more than 3.000 business meetings (B2Bs) during the Summer Fancy Food and Beverage Show 2023, which took place in Manhattan, New York, from June 25 to 27. Enterprise Greece organized the National Pavilion to host the Greek delegation.

Greek food was once again the star of the largest food and beverage exhibition, held for the 68th time. The national pavilion, organized and supported by Enterprise Greece, was located at the most central point of the prestigious Javits Center exhibition center, next to other major European countries such as Spain and Italy. Greek exporters had the opportunity to get in touch with important trade visitors and consumers from the American market.

It is worth highlighting the participation of two important EU funded projects for the promotion of Greek Frozen Fish at the national pavilion: “FROZEN SEAFOOD” implemented by Enterprise Greece, and “WESTERN GREECE SEAFOOD” by the Region of Western Greece, in cooperation with the Chamber of Aitoloakarnania.

In order to further strengthen and promote the national participation in the Summer Fancy Food Show 2023 and to enhance the visibility of Greek food, Enterprise Greece implemented a targeted campaign in renowned American media. It also organized a networking event with American buyers and journalists at a well-known Greek restaurant in New York.

The main objective of the Greek mission was to strengthen the extroversion of Greek food and drinks, which are a key pillar of the Mediterranean diet. The dynamics of Greek food exports to the US is shown by the record levels recorded in 2022, reaching 650 million dollars, while the increase for the four-year period 2018-2022 reached 64%.

The Greek delegation to the Summer Fancy Food Show 2023 was welcomed by the Executive Director and Executive Member of the Board of Enterprise Greece, Ms. Betty Alexandropoulou, as well as the Consul General of Greece in New York, Mr. Konstantinos Konstantinou, who had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the exporting companies.

In her statement Ms Alexandropoulou said: “The continuous rise of Greek food exports to the US is significantly linked to the growing awareness and confidence in Greek products, as well as the shift of American consumers to a healthier way of eating and specifically to the Mediterranean diet, with which Greek cuisine is identified. This year’s Greek participation in Summer Fancy provided an opportunity for exporting companies to maximize the benefits of their participation, as Enterprise Greece implemented a comprehensive package of promotion, marketing and networking of Greek food in the US, through specialized activities and initiatives.”

Τhe Consul General of Greece in New York, Mr Konstantinos Konstantinou, said: “The national participation in this year’s Summer Fancy was modern and dynamic and fully in line with the positive image of the country abroad, as well as with the dynamism of Greek food and drinks exports to the United States. The Greek products presented at the exhibition were of excellent quality, representing the Greek Mediterranean diet.”
