Vinexpo Tokyo 2016

Greek wine took its next step in the direction of the Japanese market at the Vinexpo Tokyo 2016 trade fair on 15 and 16 November in Tokyo. Greece had a strong presence at the event, with a national pavilion organised by Enterprise Greece, and was one of the most significant wine producing countries taking part in the trade fair.

The Greek Pavilion demonstrated 79 exceptional wines from 41 producers, which made a very favourable impression on more than 600 visitors. At the same time, about 70 persons had the opportunity to attend specialised educational seminars on the style, quality and characteristics of one of the most exciting up-and-coming varieties of wine on the world market, such as Assyrtiko, and the most appealing red varieties in Greece, Xinomavro and Agiorgitiko.

Japan is one of the target markets for Enterprise Greece’s promotional programme for quality wines. In 2015, Greek exports of wine to Japan came to €379.500, an increase of 36,2% over 2014, while between January and May 2016, according to Japanese statistics, this rise continued, with a 34% increase over the same period in 2015.

The promotion of Greek wine in Japan will continue in 2017 with coverage in the Japanese press, visits by buyers and journalists to Greece, and promotional events in Tokyo and Osaka.
