Enterprise Greece & Delphi Municipality Sign Memorandum

Enterprise Greece & Delphi Municipality Sign Memorandum

Greek state trade and investment promotion agency, Enterprise Greece, has entered a cooperation agreement with the municipality of Delphi to develop tourism in a town renowned since ancient times for its shrine to the god Apollo and as the seat of the Delphic oracle.

The Memorandum of Cooperation on Tourism Development was signed by Enterprise Greece CEO Elias Athanasiou and Delphi Mayor Athanasios Panagiotopoulos on the sidelines of the 2018 Delphi Economic Forum. Kostas Bakoyannis, the regional governor of Central Greece, presided over the signing ceremony.

The memorandum comes after two years of joint efforts by the agency and the municipality to catalogue and prioritize the publicly-owned real estate assets that are available for development. The memorandum aims to develop the municipality’s property into new, state-of-the-art tourism facilities.

The properties will be developed as part of an integrated project that harmonizes the natural and cultural environment of Delphi, with its needs for a modern conference center, hotel facilities, as well as other cultural and recreational facilities. A three-year action plan envisions leveraging the globally recognized Delphi brand name, and positioning both the town and wider region as a world-class tourism and cultural destination.

Enterprise Greece will promote the Delphi projects with international investors and help expedite licensing procedures for development. Once the projects have been put out for tender by investors and final investment plans adopted, the agency will facilitate their inclusion in Greece’s Fast Track process for strategic investments.

Delphi Mayor Athanasios Panagiotopoulos said at the signing: "Today's agreement is highly significant. After roughly two years of intensive work and joint coordination with Enterprise Greece officials, we have reached a first official milestone that paves the way for strategic, tourism investment in Delphi. With the engagement of the country’s leading investment organization, Enterprise Greece will help bring the project to fruition for the broader benefit for the region.”

Enterprise Greece CEO Elias Athanassiou emphasized the benefits of developing a complete and integrated tourism concept for the municipality. One that takes into account the development of municipal and public lands, and which will help create jobs and boost economic development in the area.
