Enterprise Greece signs MoU with the Region of Central Greece to showcase the Region as business hub

Athens, 12 September 2022 – Enterprise Greece has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Region of Central Greece during the 86th Thessaloniki International Fair to promote the region as a business hub.

The MOU was signed by Secretary General for International Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Enterprise Greece, Ioannis Smyrlis, on behalf of Enterprise Greece, and Regional Governor, Fanis Spanos on behalf of the Region of Central Greece.

The shared goal of the parties is to promote the Region of Central Greece as a business hub, in accordance with its development strategy and on the basis of its socio-economic characteristics.

The Memorandum of Understanding focuses on the following:

• Presentation of the Region to the international business community
• Empowering the internationalization of small- and medium-sized businesses of the region
• Showcasing the Region’s products, services and cultural heritage
• Developing common studies, research and implementation of programs aiming to develop a joint mechanism for participating in national as well as European co-financed programs
• Promoting networking and sharing of best practices with other European Union regions

In remarks, Mr. Smyrlis, said that the MOU represents the strong, pragmatic steps and cooperation the agency has developed with all Regions of the country and with the Union of Regions of Greece. Mr. Smyrlis noted that the shared goal of all levels of government, including the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, is to promote the sustainable and inclusive development of the entire country, which will put Greece on a path of prosperity for the long term.

Referring to the unprecedented and particularly complex challenges of recent years, Mr. Smyrlis emphasized that the Greek economy has demonstrated remarkable resilience, and that Greek businesses are growing larger, an important step for future prosperity. He further highlighted that the close cooperation of the national government, the regions, chambers of commerce and local businesses greatly facilitates targeted economic diplomacy initiatives to support Greek products in international markets and attract foreign investment. In this context, a Memorandum of Cooperation was also signed with the Union of Regions of Greece (ENPE), while the establishment of outreach offices is planned within 2022 in cooperation with the local chambers.
