Greece’s successful presence at MWC 2023

Athens, March 13, 2023 - MWC Barcelona 2023 is considered one of the top events globally in the field of digital technologies. The Greek delegation participated in MWC Barcelona 2023, managed to accomplish business agreements and developed a significant network of contacts.

Enterprise Greece in cooperation with the Association of Innovative Applications Companies of Greece (SEKEE- HAMAC) organised the national participation with the support of the Ministry of Digital Governance. This year’s participation marked the 10th anniversary since the first national mission at MWC Barcelona. The Greek pavilion was the largest, covering an area of 154 sq.m.

Forty four (44) innovative and IT companies and their executives were given the opportunity to contact potential customers and investors from around the world. In many cases, initial contacts managed to lead to business deals. In the framework of MWC, held at the Barcelona Fira Gran Via, a great number of meetings with members of other national missions were accomplished in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations with countries in the region.

Greece also participated at the 4YFN, one of the leading events for technology startups, considered the meeting point for innovation companies and investment funds from all over the world, which was hosted in at the same venue as MWC. There was a strong interest from international investment funds for opportunities in late – stage technological startups of Greece, as well as in large digital infrastructure projects.

The Executive Director and member of the BoD of Enterprise Greece, Ms Betty Alexandropoulou, stated: “The national participation in MWC 2023 highlighted the progress of the Greek ecosystem of technology and innovation. 2021 was a pivotal year for Greek startups, since the funding they received tripled, with 70 startups receiving financial aid from 85 international investors. At the same time, the improvement of current networks with the development of 5G and the high calibre human resources (high number of STEM graduates), including software and data engineers, favor the development of new services and applications to citizens and businesses in a number of sectors, such as transport, mobility, health, energy, education, manufacturing, tourism and culture. MWC is the perfect place to showcase the digital transformation taking place in Greece”.

Mr George Markatos, Chairman of the BoD of the Association of Innovative Applications Companies of Greece (SEKEE- HAMAC) said: “We are very pleased with this year’s presence of Greece at MWC Barcelona as the goals achieved were twofold: the first was to feature Greece of innovation and the possibilities it offers, and the second was to assist Greek innovative companies further develop their networking, at global level. An important factor was also the active support of many business entities which contributed to the success of the event”.

The national mission at MWC Barcelona 2023 was actively supported by organizations such as ECG-EUROBANK, the Research & Innovation Information Technologies “ARCHIMEDES”, the Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), the National Startup Registry of Startup Enterprises “Elevate Greece”, the Athens Chamber of Commerce, the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the Athens Business Incubator (THEA), HELEXPO BEYOND, NBG Seeds of the National Bank, the Pleiades IoT Innovation Cluster, the iQnovus Innovation Center of Unisystems, the Phaistos 5G investment fund Ventures, the European network PRAXI Network, the Greek Mobile Operators Association (EEKT), as well as the Hellenic Emerging Technologies Industry Association (HETIA). Samsung Electronics Hellas and Vantage Towers also supported the national participation.
