Greece as a leading investment destination in the tourism sector Enterprise Greece marked its dynamic presence

Athens, 10 May 2022 | Greece's participation at the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) that took place in Berlin on 3-5 May 2022, showcased Greece’s leading position as an investment destination in the sector of tourism.

World’s renowned hotel chains, project development companies, and investment funds consider Greece as a destination for long-term investments, while focusing their interest on projects with a significant environmental footprint and high architectural aesthetics. The latest trend of developing tourism projects in lesser-known destinations, remains strong and generates expectations.

Within the framework of the forum, Enterprise Greece officials held 65 private meetings one-on-one meetings, 40 of which were related to follow up with contacts (leads), who have already expressed the interest in investing in Greece.

It is worth noting, that there was a strong interest for Greece from new industry players, as well as, from the already established hotel brands for further expansion. This confirms the fact that Greece is in the center of interest of large hotel chains that seek opportunities to expand and consolidate their presence through acquisitions and strategic partnerships, both in the boutique hotels and the luxury hotels segment.

Enterprise Greece regularly participates in IHIF, yet this year it had a more dynamic presence. Apart from the specially designed booth, and the breakfast round table discussion dedicated to Greece, Enterprise Greece participated in a panel which focused on destination development and investments.

Thirty-five (35) industry representatives, a particularly large number for such an event, participated at the breakfast roundtable and attended the presentation of Enterprise Greece’s CEO, Mr George Filiopoulos, who referred to the latest data of the Greek economy, the Greek tourism sector and its excellent prospects.

Senior representatives of Greek and international renowned companies of the industry participated at the Roundtable discussion, among them: Mr Alexander Robinson, Senior Manager Industry Partners of STR, Ms Natalia Strafti, Managing Partner of Grivalia Hospitality, Mr Konstantinos Santikos, Managing Director of Santikos Collection, Mr Tiago Venancio, Hotel Development of Fosun Tourism Group-FTC Hotels, Ms Maria Zarraluqui, Global Development VP of Meliá Hotels International and Mr Dimitris Manikis, President EMEA (Europe, the Middle East & Africa) of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.
