Green Growth Business Forum & B2B meetings

Held under the joint auspices of H.E. President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and H.E. President of the Slovak Republic Zuzana Čaputová

Athens, September 7, 2022 | Enterprise Greece, in cooperation with the Embassy of Slovakia in Athens, the Athens Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI), and the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO), this month jointly organized a forum focusing on business opportunities in the fields of energy, the environment and innovation.

The event, the Green Growth Business Forum held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, took place on the occasion of the official visit to Athens of H.E. the President of the Republic of Slovakia, Zuzana Čaputová, and was implemented under her auspices, as well as under the auspices of H.E. President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou. The delegation accompanying President Čaputová included leaders from 20 Slovak businesses and organizations.

The theme of the Forum is extremely timely. The world faces two extraordinary challenges: the global climate crisis and an unprecedented disruption in global energy markets. At the same time, the coronavirus pandemic has ushered in a new era in digital technologies and communication around the world. This trio of changes – a need for better environmental management, energy security and digital transformation – gave impetus to the Forum, with participants agreeing that these are areas in which Greece and Slovakia have much to contribute to each other and to the world.

Attending the Forum were Kostas Fragogiannis, Deputy Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness; Martin Kováč, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Slovak Republic; Ioannis Smyrlis, Secretary General for International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of Enterprise Greece; Sofia Efraimoglou-Kounenaki, acting President and First Vice-President of the ACCI; and Egon Zorad, Director of Trade of SARIO. The event was coordinated by ACCI Secretary General Babis Moraitis.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Enterprise Greece and SARIO to strengthen the economic and commercial relations between Greece and Slovakia. The MOU was signed by Mr. Smyrlis on behalf of Enterprise Greece and Mr. Zorad on behalf of SARIO.

Business to business meetings followed between representatives of Greek and Slovak enterprises active in the fields of renewable energy, waste management, water resources management, electromechanics, electromobility and ICT, with universities and research institutions from both countries also participating.
