Greek Food & Beverage Month in Serbia

Greek Food & Beverage Month in Serbia

Greek food and cooking are being showcased at Greek Food & Beverage Month in Serbia, featuring 420 new Greek F&B products from forty leading Greek exporters. The event, on display at the Super Vero chain of stores in Belgrade, will run from June 1 to June 25, and is being jointly supported by Enterprise Greece and the commercial wing of the Greek Embassy in Belgrade.

The aim of the initiative is to introduce Greek food products into Serbian shops and increase consumer awareness of Greek products. As part of the campaign, a number of parallel events are being staged, including cooking demonstrations by well-known and recognised chefs, as well as a prize and promotion strategy twinning Greek food and tourism: purchasers of Greek food products will be given a chance to win a holiday trip to Greece.

The opening event was held in Belgrade on May 31, with invitees from Serbia's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Transport, the Serbian media, and representatives of Greek and Serbian businesses. Opening remarks were made by Mr. Charalambos Kounalakis, Greek commercial attaché in Belgrade. Mr. Kounalakis, along with Super Vero group owner, Mr. N. Verropoulos, jointly presented the most outstanding Greek food export products to the assembled audience. The event also featured samplings of Greek food and drinks, a cooking demonstration by a Greek chef, and Greek music. The warm reception by Serbian consumers of Greek Food & Beverage Month means that the event will serve as a pilot program for similar initiatives in other countries.

In his remarks, Mr. Kounalakis said: "The Serbian market may not yet be a big market for Greece, but shows strong promise due to its future membership in the EU. It is important that Greece establishes a position in the Serbian market and can achieve that with the quality of Greek products."

The Chairman of Enterprise Greece, Mr. Christos Staikos, noted that: "The growth prospects for the Greek agri-food sector, and the quality of those products, make it incumbent upon us to promote them in new markets. The presence of 40 export-oriented Greek companies, offering more than 400 food products to Serbian consumers, shows how we should be actively promoting the export of products and services."
