64 Greek wine and spirits producers in the Prowein 2023 fair

Athens, March 27, 2023 | The strong popularity of Greek wines internationally was confirmed once again, during the largest wine and drinks fair in the world, Prowein 2023, held in Düsseldorf, Germany, on March 19-21.
The national kiosk, organized and supported by the Greek Company of Investments and Foreign Trade (Enterprise Greece), hosted 64 important wine-makers from the Regions of Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Attica, Western Greece, Ipiros, Thessaly, Crete, Central Greece and other parts of the country and held a prominent position next to traditionally strong players of the sector, including Italy.
With over 300 local vine varieties and a respectively extended variety of terroir and mostly passionate wine producers, the new generation of Greek wines enjoys a justified popularity worldwide. The sector's dynamics were increased importantly in 2022 as well, with exports of Greek wine and spirits showing impressive increases both in the core markets of Europe and in Northern America, with parallel increase of the average selling price per liter, a fact which showcases their value and acceptance from consumers globally.
This year’s Prowein attracted over 6,000 wine-makers from all over the world and approximately 49,000 commercial visitors from 141 countries. During the three days of the fair, thousands of commercial visitors tasted a large variety of wines at the Free Tasting Area of the national kiosk, under the guidance of Greek Sommeliers. Two workshops on Greek wine were also held by Caro Maurer, Master of Wine.
