Hotel Show & Gulf Host 2017

Hotel Show & Gulf Host 2017

Greek companies staged a strong and successful showing at this year’s The Hotel Show Dubai and GulfHost trade fairs, the Middle East’s leading exhibitions focusing on the furnishings, decorations and equipment for the hospitality and catering industries.

The two fairs, part of Dubai International Hospitality Week, were held concurrently for the first time at the Dubai World Trade Centre Sept. 18-20. The exhibitions drew more than 50,000 visitors and provided businesses with complete end-to-end solutions to their hospitality and catering needs.

A delegation of 11 leading Greek companies participated in the Greek delegation and were present at the national pavilion organized by Enterprise Greece, the state trade and investment promotion agency. The companies, which have increasingly sharpened their export activities over the past few years, met and discussed business opportunities with visitors from the United Arab Emirates, the broader Middle East, North Africa and India.

With a forecast 30 million visitors this year, Greece is one of the world’s top 20 visitor destinations. The country’s tourism sector accounts for roughly one-sixth of the Greek economy. The Dubai International Hospitality Week, which includes The Hotel Show Dubai, GulfHost as well as allied exhibitions The Leisure Show and Speciality Food Festival, is aimed at providing investors, procurement managers, designers and other hospitality officials an opportunity to learn the latest about products, ideas and trends shaping the future of the hospitality and catering industries.

At the Greek pavilion, Enterprise Greece CEO Elias Athanasiou welcomed Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, chairman of Dubai Airports, and chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline, who presided over the inauguration of the exhibition. Accompanied by Christos Stampoulopoulos, head of the Office of Commercial and Economic Affairs in Dubai, Mr. Athanasiou, spoke with the Greek exhibitors present who expressed their satisfaction with the high quality of the Greek presence and kiosk organized by Enterprise Greece.

On the occasion, Mr. Athanasiou also spoke with the President of the Hellenic Foodservice Equipment Suppliers Association (SEEME), Giannis Avgerakis, who expressed his complete satisfaction with Enterprise Greece’s support for the export activities undertaken by businesses in the sector. Mr. Avgerakis called on the agency to continue its efforts in 2018 to promote the industry’s export activities and to help open up new markets.

In his remarks, Enterprise Greece CEO Elias Athanasiou said: “As part of its 2017 program of activities, Enterprise Greece has organized another successful Greek trade delegation, this time in the furnishings, decorations, and hospitality and catering equipment sector; a sector that has shown a dynamic export orientation in recent years. This confirms the success of Enteprise Greece’s strategy to participate in these exhibitions, with Dubai serving as a hub for the wider region of the Middle East.”
