Prowein 2018 Exhibition

The Greek national participation in the world’s largest wine and beverage exhibition, Prowein 2018, reached new heights at this year’s trade fair with 100 wineries taking part in the exhibition.
The exhibition, held in Düsseldorf from 18 to 20 March, attracted more than 6,800 winemakers from around the world and about 60,000 industry attendees.
The national stand was organized by Enterprise Greece, and hosted important winemakers from the Peloponnese and Attica regions, as well as from rest of Greece.
To enhance the visibility of national participation, Enterprise Greece sponsored the Meininger Award 2018, held at the Intercontinental Düsseldorf. The event provided an opportunity to 500 German wine industry professionals to taste 30 Greek labels boasting a selection of native varieties.
In addition, Enterprise Greece organized a wine tasting seminar at the Meininger Pavilion entitled: “Greek Whites: Ancient varieties and unique terroirs.” As part of the seminar, Master of Wine Giannis Karakasis held a presentation for about 40 industry professionals -- among them fellow wine masters, sommeliers and buyers – introducing 10 Greek white wines of different styles from various regions and varieties such as asyrtiko, moschofilero, robola, malagousia and savvatiano. The agency also secured an important distinction for Greek winemakers at the exhibition: Greek wines were appointed as the official wines served in the VIP Lounge and the VIB (Very Important Buyers) Lounge at Prowein 2018.
The CEO of Enterprise Greece, Elias Athanasiou, said: "Greek winemakers had an impressive presence next to great winemaking powers such as Italy and Austria. For our part, Enterprise Greece, in full cooperation with all the wine-affiliated organizations in Greece, has done, is doing and will continue to make every effort to promote Greek wine and its varieties around the world and to enter new markets worldwide."
The national stand was honored by the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Düsseldorf, Maria Papakonstantinou; and the Commercial Attaché of the Greek Consulate in Düsseldorf, Maria Vassilakis.
