The Mediterranean Resort & Hotel Real Estate Forum (MR&H) returns to Greece

Athens, 1 April 2019 | The fifth MR&H conference will take place in Greece in October 2019, marking the second time the event has been held in the country, confirming Greece as one of the Mediterranean’s hottest investment destinations.

The conference will be held at the Athens Hilton Hotel from 29 to 31 October 2019, coinciding with 100th anniversary of the Hilton Group and celebrating its vision that "travel can make the world a better place."

The conference, organized by Questex, is dedicated to investments in the development and operation of complex tourist resorts and hotels in the Mediterranean region. This includes a number of related sectors (e.g. hotels, marinas, sporting activities, food and beverages), which comprise the key components of successful and integrated complex, tourist resort.

Each year, representatives of leading tourism companies (such as Thomas Cook, Club Med and Nobu) and investment groups (such as KSL, Starwood Capital Group and Dolphin Capital) attend the conference, in recognition of its importance as a prime networking opportunity for the industry.

Greece’s rapidly growing tourism sector underscores the increased investment activity in both the country and in the wider Mediterranean region. Speaking at the MIPIM exhibition in Cannes last month -- one of the largest real estate exhibitions in the world -- the Secretary-General for Tourism Policy and Development George Tziallas said: “Half of the funding disbursed under Greece’s 2016 development law has been channeled into tourism businesses, and more than 400 investment plans have been submitted for approval in the last three years to the Ministry of Tourism."

Recent data by Horwath HTL, released during the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) 2019 in Berlin, shows that Greece is an attractive investment destination for international hotel chains, given that only 1.7% of units are currently operated by international brands. Recent research surveys (Tranio & IHIF) show that Greece is one of the most attractive European countries for hotel real estate investments.

Registration for the MR&H 2019 conference has opened and tickets are available at a reduced price for a limited time. Interested parties can arrange to stay at the conference hotel. More information is available on the website:

Enterprise Greece continues to support the MR&H conference. Grigoris Stergioulis, Chairman and CEO of the agency, said: "Building on last year's success of the conference, effective collaboration with Questex and the important opportunities for investors in the Greek hotel market, we are thrilled that we are once again working with the organizers of MR&H to hold this conference in Greece for a second time."

Alexis Khajavi, Managing Director of EMEA Hospitality + Travel Group, Questex, said: "The prospects for the Greek tourism industry are leading to increased investment interest. Our role as hosts of the conference is to facilitate meetings, contacts and interactions between stakeholders. The continued support of Enterprise Greece, the facilities provided by Hilton, as well as the very encouraging data about the industry, make us believe that the MR&H 2019 will be an event that should not be missed by those who work or want to be active in the tourist industry in the Mediterranean."
