It is a metamorphic rock composed after a carbonate sediment, mainly limestone or dolomite, has been exposed to high temperatures and strains.

Marble is not a typical decorative “stone”, it has a personality. It is the stone that shines, that illuminates. The word derives from the ancient Greek word “marmairo” i.e. “to sparkle”. And not only does it sparkle, but it can also be carved into architectural and sculptural works with relative ease.

GREEK MARBLE is found everywhere in our country. To quote Yiannis Ritsos at his poem “Romiosini” (ie “Greekness”), “[…] Trees, rivers and voices turn to marble in the sun’s whitewash. The root stumbles on the marble.[…]”

Its many comparative advantages, both technical and aesthetic, have helped it stand out, from the antiquity to the present day.
