Our View: Technology Nation

By Georgios Filiopoulos
CEO, Enterprise Greece

From around Europe and around the world, technology companies are coming to Greece, further solidifying the country’s position as a flourishing technology and innovation hub in Southeast Europe.

Europe and Greece are becoming the new frontier in technology investing. Last year was a banner year for European tech, and in Greece, funding for Greek startups more than tripled in 2021. The first Greek unicorn emerged earlier this year, while several others look poised to join the club.

For every euro invested in Greek startups last year by Greek VCs, another two-and-a-half came from institutional foreign investors. In parallel, leading tech multinationals are investing in the country.

In June, Enterprise Greece will help host the Hellenic International Business Angels Summit and Athens has been selected as the host city for next year’s annual congress of the European Business Angels Network. This is an exciting time for Greek tech, which lies at the heart of the country’s strategy for sustainable growth.
